Has anyone fitted the H7 Led bulbs to replace the HID main beams? I've had some issues with the HID's.......

There's a nice long thread in the Chimp compound about the LED bulbs.

Search for LED headlamp chimeara should bring it up. Its 14ish pages.

I have the Jeep LED headlamps fitted to Tamy. The driving lights have LED bulbs fitted as well. I'm satisfied.

I too have read the thread on the Chimaera forum with interest.
I have a 2004 Mk.1 S, so - as standard, the car has HID on main beam.

My issue is that the dipped beam lamps are such a contrast between the dip and main beam light outputs/performance. The 'throw' on main beam is fine for fast night driving on empty roads, but when do we see empty roads?? I picked up a stone in the O/S dip lamp which I replaced and noted that it was marginally brighter than the N/S unit...guess that's down to any 'silvering' in the newer unit.

So, in addition to the noticeable difference between dip and main beam, I also find the 'spread' on the dip pattern to be less than optimum. It's particularly noticeable when executing a LH turn - - you just cannot see the kerb/edge of the road.

I'd really welcome any input/photos on my comments above.

I am also following this tread with interest but for a marginally different reason.
I have HID on both dip and main beam.
Whilst the dip gives a good throw of light the issue that I find is that the main beam takes a long time to 'warm up' (can't think of a better way of putting this).
It is not too bad if it is being regularly dipped for the occasionally passing car but if there are a few in a row then it is back to square one and it goes through the warm up phase again.
Therefore I am interested in the possibility of putting LED bulbs in for main beam as they appear to have the benefits of amount of light given out and immediate response.

Agreed - re: comments on 'strike' time for the HIDs.

I was considering HID for the dip beam light - my mate converted his Chimaera to HID and the difference is spectacular. He got a kit from 'HID City' about 3 years ago and they were simple to install.

Googling for LED v HID and the main advantage for LED is much lower current draw, particularly compared to when the arc is struck on an HID fitting - and the light is instantaneous.

I believe my issue is partly made worse by the fact that the lights are shrouded by the recesses in the wings. I might just have to experiment?

I've had similar problems. Going from the Main beam to the dipped beam can almost seem like you've turned the lights off completely for a few seconds. Not good on a country road at 60mph. I also had issues with the fuses blowing when I flashed the main beams.

I was looking at these:

personally I'd avoid those - whenever the description
mentions 'Fog' you'll find that the output is not good enough for main or dip, also looking at the led spread they are not at the same focal point as the halogen/HiD so the beam pattern would be awful.

Thanks I feared that might be the case. These are the only other ones I can see that would do the job:

Not quite sure if they are going to fit with the fan/heatsink so close to the waterproof light cover.
