No... Carpet isn't carpet. Most normal carpets have uv stabilisation. Another thing tvr cocked up...

I've got some wool samples from Martin and am going to a localish trimmer who will take the old carpets and Replicate them in the new carpet.. I need to take the car first so they can have a quick look before I strip it out... It just needs to stop raining, snowing and other weather related annoyances.

The alternative is as the other matt (matt-man) on here is doing with one of the pre cut kits which he's going to fit shortly Ibelieve so worth seeing

I replaced the boot and cabin carpet on my 2004 Mk.1 S last year.

I got the cut and piped pieces from Verpoorten Technik in Hungary. I was impressed with their customer service. At the time they didn't have a pattern for the boot, so I stripped mine and couriered the pieces to them...So they now have templates for all the carpet sections on a Mk.1 Tuscan.

I got my carpet in fully synthetic, choosing this over a wool or wool/synthetic mix as it would be more resistant to damp issues. I believe also that the colour is in the fabric at the time of manufacture too.

IIRC the total cost for the boot and cabin set was about Eu.760. The pieces required very little trimming to fit. A mate and myself did the car in about 4(long) days. I would suggest you get spray adhesive rather than use the liquid contact adhesive that Verpoorten suggest.

It wasn't sunlight that caused discoloration on mine, it was the heat from the cats on the centre tunnel. If I was refitting I'd put some extra heat shielding behind.

Interesting... I'll look when it's off.

Mine were light blue so not that faded but just tired...fresh ones really make a difference

...Likewise, interesting. My original carpets were very faded in the usual areas - parcel shelf behind seats, top of rear wheel arches, around gearstick/handbrake area.

My footwell pieces were reasonable...Alan, might suggest you have a bit of a blockage on your cats...if they are running hot so that they are discolouring the carpet??

Just been to the trimmers local to me. They do ferraris, murias, etc and had rolls Royce carpet, with a felt back on it for sound proofing. It felt amazing... But it's 90 quid a metre... Phwoaaar

To be fair I'd run the car for a while with no problems but following a long weekend of Alpine hooning and some very spirited autobahn blasts this happened:

The same on both sides of the tunnel. Don't think there's any blockage just rather exceptional conditions I suppose. The same trip also blistered the bonnet paint above the manifold. I've since had the bonnet repainted and manifold wrapped but I'll live with the carpets for a while longer. I keep thinking about a decat but its the messing about for the MOT that puts me off!

TVR insisted on not using standard carpet, they dyed the carpet themselves, the downside was it wasn't UV stabilised so the carpet faded over time. It was really the only way of offering the choice of colour in the speed needed. More standard colours in standard carpet last much longer. Were they right in the standardisation against customisation debate.
