Hello John. Carpets all done. Just need to get a new lower steering coupling as the bolt was seized and rounded of and required sacrificing to get the dam thing off.

PF issue should have some redesigned bits on the way.

Is that a handle you've fitted to the back of your head. biggrin

Anyway, here's another couple on the bench

Handle Ha ha, seeing as I just posted re ignition barrels don't think you should make fun. Anyway I have three heads and two have this mod, it does do something, good.

Here is one on the bench....

Hello John. Think I posted my reply on that one when you answered. All sorted now. Hopefully all in the right position and won't be set to continuously start.

Anyway back to engine info.

David your not a million miles away from heathfield. I used julian Godfrey motor sport to polish and balance the rotating assembly, although I know obviously you have your sons place.

Those rods look similar to these little fellas!

I'd definitely go for the arp rod bolts and head studs.

I know you've had issues with them David but all of my parts came from racing green, you'll get a tvr club discount too.. If your keeping your existing head seriously consider there head refurb kit, at least one of the components supplied come from 'the' best supplier in the world.

Great, thanks for the pics and keep the advice coming. I will have the engine on a stand tomorrow and strip some more down before the measuring begins. Apparently I am going to have a build book so my son tells me so everything is measured and recorded. I will provide pics as it comes apart.

I need to buy a big timing discs all the internet ones look small accept the Moroso one at £60 !!

In the meantime, these cats may cause me to think through some options when they go back in or not in a few months time.

Hi David,
I ordered my maroso wheel from the states. Big timing wheels seem impossible to come by in this country, seems to be a bit of a dieing art outside of the motor cycle world.

You can use a smaller diameter wheel, you basically need a finer pointer to go with it.

As for the cats, can't recommend Clive's cats enough, they have a great finish.

At the cost of a set of rings I would seriously invest in a tapered ring compressor.

Using this the Pistons with rings drop in with finger pressure.

Thanks a trip to Uxbridge it is, I used them for years with Chevy engines and forgot about them.

So next challenge the balancer seems to be very keen to remain with the engine. They do not seek an amicable separation. I fear bigger tool needed ! What did you use ?

I tried a balance puller which died in the process. In the end removed with a heavy four leg gear puller.

It's a good feeling when that relents! The rest is a doddle in comparison.
