Hi all,

Does anyone have a good lead on door top finishers/end cappings in general, and the front/A post ones in particular? Mine are simultaneously melting and crumbling away in Malaysian heat.

Got ecstatic yesterday when I found those on the tvr-parts website yesterday. But it seems they just haven't bothered to remove the unavailable items from their parts lists...

If there's a group planning to have these bits made somewhere - anywhere - I'll happily join in and pay a premium to stock up. If not, I know several places here in KL that could do it at quite reasonable cost and I'd take it upon myself to make the moulds if these cannot be sourced. Assuming, of course, that I had the right bits to make them from.

Come on, Tuscan owners, surely I'm not the only one in desperate need of some rubber?

Alas, these are for the rear of the doors. The ones I'm currently looking for sit at the front of the doors, and these seem to be rarer than hen's teeth...

Nenad, can't offer any help on the rubber front, but I'm amazed you're still running your Tuscan in KL! How many years is it now?

Hi Dave! Yep, still running the Tuscan almost daily. Have been doing so for over four years. Mostly without problems, e.g. no overheating even in jams, but all rubber bits seriously dislike the heat. Particularly when the car's parked in direct sunlight (sometimes unavoidable). They actually start melting and leaving rubber traces on the windows! I suspect cheapo, poor quality rubber to begin with, like so many other TVR factory components.

As I was saying previously, with quite a few cars around and "everyone" looking for rubber, I can't believe that an enterprising company hasn't started manufacturing these. Owners would, I'm sure, pay top money for good quality parts, certainly I would. As it is, one of the parts I'm desperately looking for is currently in at least six pieces, all held together with superglue! And I do my best to avoid heavy rain when driving...

Have talked to the owner of the local shop which services the Tuscan about this. (He and his guys are all from the old Malaysian TVR manufacturing plant and they have serious experience with all aspects of the brand. They even got a copy of Varley's invaluable Sagaris manual just to be sure they can service the engine...) If we can get reasonably good examples of all rubber bits, for all models needing them, we'd set up small scale manufacturing with one of the many rubber specialists here. Malaysia may not be good at much smile but they do know their rubber.

If there's anything you can do to spread the word around the TVR community, I'd be grateful. It seems that my very irregular posts on this forum are mostly ignored... Maybe it's because I don't post often enough to be taken seriously? Or too much "to the point"? Whereas posts such as "Ooh, I saw a red Tuscan in my neighbourhood, wonder whose it is?" seem to attract a never ending stream of comments...

Thought I recently saw that Racetech direct were selling the rear door ends so maybe they do the front ones?

I have one door which has the front rubber protector and one door that is a different design and doesn't have the front rubber!!

I'm having the same trouble trying to locate the rubber covers that go on the removal roof panel locating pins. I found I'd lost one when it scratched the fk out my roof......

Yes, RD do sell some of the pieces, and I've replaced both the rear bits and the front one on the driver's door. But unfortunately they don't have the LH ones in stock. And yes, although I currently need just that one, I'd be more than happy to know that there's a reliable supplier of all of the Tuscan rubber thingies.

So my offer stands: all of you out there who can contribute with at least one of the bits (including any other TVR models for which these are hard/impossible to get), I'll organise a small scale manufacture here in KL. At cost for those that contribute ("Ver' cheap for you, lah, special deal today!"). With samples sent out to be tested and approved prior to the production phase.

I know, Malaysia may not be anyone's first choice of a manufacturing site, but don't forget that they made the Chimaera here for several years before Mr Wheeler pulled the plug. And not because the cars were poor - quite the opposite, according to my reliable source - the cars made here were of a higher quality than in the UK plant, but it cost "too much" with proper quality control, compared to UK. All I can say is that I wish my Tuscan S had been assembled here and not in Blackpool...

And before I start getting irate comments on my last paragraph, I have learned over these past few years on this forum that the TVR brand is sacrosanct amongst its followers and must never be questioned or - god forbid - demeaned. We just have to accept the "quirks" and "shortcomings" as being a peculiarity of TVR and thus having a higher meaning than we mere mortals are supposed to fathom. In my admittedly rare posts on the forum, I've so far had replies ranging from helpful, to scathing ("So you've bought a TVR. What did you expect?"), to downright rude - which I won't even comment on, other than saying that "Yes, if I had to, I could strip down the engine and put it together with the tools and experience I have. Could you?" But I still persevere, because I've never driven a car in my quite long life that has managed to put such a huge, silly, happy grin on my face as the Tuscan does. On those occasions that she behaves.
