Engine Removal and or body off
Discussion
Hi
I may do both , at the stage of deciding from a time and commitment perspective and costs right now. So hunting for experience of all options to get my decision made.
I have a bit of a history of changing a brake hose on a car and ending up rebuilding the car over 3 years etc, so this time I am doing all the thinking and planning before I jump.

David I would definitely drop the engine down rather than trying to extract it from the top. When I looked at potentially using my crane, there was a risk of it moving forward in to the car.
I place a skid on wheels under the car, removed all mounts and accessories, then lifted the car. There should be pics in the link on my profile.

It is very hard , when removing the engine from beneath , to get the car high enough to clear the engine without a ramp . If you are taking the body off anyway do this first .
You need some of the large lorry style stands to raise the car the height of the engine plus the height of the skid/trolley you will use to pull the engine out. You'll need to lift it in stages, low stands then the taller ones..Granted I did it with a ramp which obviously removes the hassle of stands.
