Have any of you guys replaced your ignition switch. Mine got a bit fubar'd when I disconnected the plug from the rear of the switch.

Is it only held on by one grub screw? If not how do reach the second one???

I've ordered some tiny cranked screw drivers to access the top screw but the bottom looks border line impossible.

Assuming it's a Mk1 with Vectra column:

Hi Marcus,
Thanks. I think that thread is about removing the ignition barrel not the switch. I just want to swap the plastic unit housing the contacts.

Am I missing something.

Hmm this seems to be severe grief. I have the old ignition switch off. To refit it looks like the ignition barrel needed to be removed released back slightly. Now can't for the life of me get the ignition key barrel back in its housing.

Anyone done this before. Did it require some sort of magic.

Its easy.

Barrel, to withdraw turn key to ACC and insert pin, guess you know this so to replace; with the column horizontal, UJ joint/rack end to the right look down the barrel socket you will see a square on the left and a rectangle opposite on the bottom right. Using a thin screwdriver or welding rod press the square. Now the memory is fuzzy, I think the rectangle opposite will slide out of the way, you may need to encourage it, now don't touch anything and insert the barrel with the key in the ACC position push it back in, click... ta da!

Switch connector, this needs to be in ACC as well. There is a grey plastic lug central that spikes into the black plastic moulding, it has a peg on the back that stops it moving out of the way, this peg needs to slot into a grove on the pin that turns with the barrel. It is a b'tard to get to release as the grey plastic lug needs to pushed hard over.

Switch, small screw on the side of the barrel socket, remove and don't loose, twist the switch out. To replace you will need to push the dowel pin opposite the screw out of the way and push a thin screwdriver up the back of the barrel socket between the steering lock case to push the pin back in, there are two lugs on the switch which the pin and screw fit into.
