OK it is a (sunny!) Sunday and my idea was to take the Tuscan out for a drive, as she has been sitting in the garage for ages. Unfortunately, the Tuscan had different ideas.

To start, the passenger side window would refuse to drop. From recent posts, I am aware I am not alone and something I believe to be capable of fixing myself. Besides, the better half could always use the "roof off" alternative entrance, so that wouldn't necessarily prevent us from going for a spin.

What does prevent it is the handbrake (which I never use!). Because the handbrake knob (yes, k.n.o.b.) was not fully retracted, I pushed it and wiggled the handbrake up and down to release the knob.

Result: handbrake now stuck and no matter what I do, there is no way to release the knob (stuck) and the handbrake is "locked". I can move the lever up and down but the red dash (!) indicator tells me I will be going nowhere.

Oh and 3 weeks ago I decided to remove home recovery from my breakdown cover as never had to use it in the past 6 years.

I know that I should use the car more often and all that but today's handbrake issue is really annoying. I know "they all do that Sir" but FFS. And of course it was all perfect the last time I parked it in the garage.

Rant over; any ideas where I should start with the handbrake surgery?

Hi mate, beautiful car! I assume from what your saying the hand brake lever will move up and down but the handbrake won't release. The easy thing would be the pads are rusted onto the disks and you just need to give him some revs and brake them off, but my suspicion would be the hand brake cable is rusted solid. Ours was rusted solid in the off position and needed replacement, but I jacked it up and it did not look an easy job so I handed him over to the specialists. Good luck, hope you get it sorted soon and you need to drive him more often and never leave him with the hand brake on. Cheers

Cheers mate- appreciate your comments. Trouble is: I never use the hand brake; the car sat in the garage for 2 months at least (I travel 200+ days/year) in 1st gear only and has always been serviced "as the doctor ordered" at a well- respected TVR specialist.

Yes Tuscans HAVE to be driven... but with most of the time being abroad & great UK weather combined , my possibilities to drive the car are not epic.

Window issue not a big deal. But as the Tuscan has been serviced less than 600 miles ago for 1+ grand, it really made me sad today, bearing in mind my only option is a diesel Vauxhall. Exciting.

I have never ever owned a car that is as rewarding as a Tuscan but today I am pissed off big time ...

Nothing that cannot be fixed with a bottle of red, though, I am 1/2 way through and now looking for some ideas.

Still would have been so much nicer to look through the Tuscan's windscreen than at my PC screen...

Appreciate your offer, mate- thanks. Yes the handbrake is definitely "on".

IMHO - get the back end jacked up and on stands. Whip the wheels off and lubricate the handbrake mech. on the rear calipers.

It may be that the cable is 'crusty' inside the outer sleeve...replacement is fairly easy.

Drive it!
