Hi all,

I need some new tyres for my Red Rose in 225/35/18 and 255/35/18.

I can get the same again in Toyo T1-S, but they are an older design now.

I see the Continental ContiSportContact 5 did well in the latest Autoexpress tyre review, http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/918...

They are available in the correct sizes apart from the front 225's are a lower W 168mph speed rating rather than the Y 186mph for the Toyo. This is not a concern as I dont expect to get to those speeds on the weekend blast. The rear 255's are the correct Y speed rating.

Has anyone fitted the Continentals? If so, any feedback? I don't need R888's or R1R's.

cheers
Whitey

Hi Whitey, I've just put the Continental Contact Sport on my Tuscan Mk2. They feel pretty good so far, but I've not done that much mileage. Track day down at Goodwood in a couple of days so I'll let you know how they go (I'm pretty sure I'll be running out of talent before the tyres cause any problems!!).

Oh, meant to say, I have 235/18/40 front and 245/18/40 rear all Y rated.

I fitted a set of ContisportContact 5P's to my Mk1 back in May. They feel fantastic (but doesn't a new set of tyres always over the old set?). Done about 1200 miles on them now and not a bad word to say about how they perform. They are great, totally recommend them.

I went with them due to great reviews also - and the fact that Continental aren't making the Sport 6's in an 18inch size irked. Be aware though that there seems to be a fair difference in performance between the 5 and 5P (better) so make sure you get the right ones.

Was originally very happy with my old Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 2s, but that tyre is a dinosaur now and couldn't help feeling the game has moved on since it was brought out years ago. Would be interesting to see how the Asymmetric 3s rate when they are released.

+1 for the Goodyear Eagle Asymetrics - fitted all round on mine and had no issues.

Thanks for the comments.

BertieMagnus, what size tyres do you have as I cannot find the 5P's in the sizes I want?

I think I will go for the 5's in the sizes I want and just remember not to let my front tyres go over 168mph smile

Now that's the size the handbook says is correct for my S mk1, I'm just about to replace My tyres and notice that they have 255/35/18 90Y on the front and rear? And some other online guides say that's correct others don't?

And I'm after the best for normal road use (not track) and wondered what most people use.

I've got the size as stated here and very happy with them. (Goodyear).
Just to point our that I wanted that bit extra rubber and air as I drive to Germany and Spain every year so, a bit more of a GT application.
Just done 1700 miles down to the Algarve. My Wife was happy with the ride comfort, (I put and extra sheet of seat foam padding in her seat base.) wink

Sorry for the delay - my tyres are 255/35/18 on the rear and 235/40/18 on the front.

Just returned from a mad blast around the Outer Hebrides and Isle of Skye in the car and can report that the 5Ps are stupidly good in the soaking wet. You have to really really provoke them to get any slip. Even pulling out at junctions in 1st gear and giving it some beans didn't unstick them but would have had the old set spinning in the dry.
Never had a tyre with so much wet grip.

I've heard lots of good things about Vredestein Sessantas on the Tuscan - anyone with experience of them?

Thanks Bertiemagnus, I will be going with the 5's in the sizes I mentioned below, when I get around to ordering them!
