OK, on my ECU it was Pin #16 that overheated - black wire - earth. When I opened up the 'box' of the ecu the solder joining the pin (male) to the board had melted too.
I sent off the ecu to 'Electroversal' near Bedford - http://www.electroversal.com/. who repaired and tested the ECU. Turned around in about 6 working days.
I bought some female pins from RaceTech Direct and soldered a heavier gauge wire to it. I cut open the connector (female part attached to the loom) just enough to prise out the 'old' female pin. I then inserted the new pin with the heavier black wire soldered to it and blobbed a bit of araldite rapid onto the connector case. I then soldered the heavier gauge onto the earth wire in the loom - job done. The connector now 'runs' much cooler than before.
