My Mk 1 (2004) has a black u-channel strip on the rear edge of the targa panel but I can't find any reference to it on the usual parts suppliers website. Was this a standard factory fit or the previous owner's attempt to reduce creaks and squeaks ?

My issue is it's hanging off and beyond salvage so I would like to replace it if it's meant to be there.

Not a great photo as its hard to get it lit and focussed. Note the tapered edge is just where someone has trimmed it both ends with a Staney knife. It's a classic u-profile in a flexible hard rubberized compound.

Not sure if this is big enough. I don't have it on my targa roof but could do with some.

Good list, I may slice a section and send to each of them, although before that I'll probably punt a couple of quid on this and let everyone know the outcome:

Just realised you asked the exact same question only a few weeks ago !!!! I will let you know how I get on with my attempts. Still not sure if it was factory fit or not but I defintely get a lot of squeaking in that interface.

Now fitted the eBay one and pretty happy for £7. Its a touch fatter than the previous one so depending on how your gaps are it may need a bit of fettling and best to push it down before firing the targa locking pins. Just did a high speed motorway run and no adverse noises, in fact it has eliminated the creaking I was getting off the old perished one.

I will get around to cleaning off the exposed area, didn't bond the new one on, just a trial push fit.
