I've been keeping my Mk. II on a trickle charger for some time - I've taken it out every couple of weeks this summer, but it's been in the garage for the last month while on holiday. Got in it today, pressed the start button - all the normal things happened - dashboard lights, fuel pump etc etc. Alarm is off. Push the button to start - there's a 'clunk' - and all the electrics go off - starter doesn't even try to turn.

What might it be - the starter relay? battery finally expired?

Many thanks for any clues...

Tom

Flat battery.

Enough volts to light a few things up but nowhere near enough to crank it over would be my guess.

Try the headlights, are they dim?

My money would be on the battery too. That, or a poor earth from the battery to chassis. How many volts indicated before you move the key to crank the starter?

Agreed ^^.

The MBE ECU need 10V indicated on display to work properly.

Loads of threads on General TVR forum on what voltages to expect from a decent battery - do a search.
