Hi
I wonder if anyone can help, I went down a large pothole yesterday and the passenger door window came down to the open door position and door open registered on the dash and now the window will not close and door open is always on the dash.

Right here goes will try to explain.
Took the panel off from behind the b pillar there are two connectors one from the micro switch and one that operates the door solenoid to open it. Cleaned all connectors but no joy window still in door open position and door open on the LCD. Now the odd bit disconnected the micro switch connector and the window now closes using the console Knob, so closed the window and opened the door window dropped and door opened as it should, closed door window didn't close but door open now not showing on dash.

Hi Colin - sounds like a strange one!

idea

Best guess is that the microswitch is a push-to-break, so when the door is closed the circuit would be open - I don't know this for a fact, but it would seem to explain the symptoms. If the switch is push-to-break, then disconnecting the microswitch would fool the door/window ECU into thinking that the door is always closed, even when it isn't (i.e. circuit is permanently open).

If the door/window ECU thinks that the door is closed, the dial on the centre console would still allow you to raise/lower the window to your heart's content. This would also explain why the door ECU doesn't automatically raise the window after closing the door - with the microswitch disconnected, from the point of view of the door ECU the door has been closed the whole time, so it wouldn't know that the window needs to be raised. Finally, this would also explain the normal operation of the door release button, since the door ECU thinks that the door is closed when the button is pressed (regardless of the actual position of the door), and therefore drops the window before triggering the solenoid.

If my guess is correct, then the only real fix is to get the microswitch correctly positioned so that the actuator arm depresses the button when the door latch is closed, and releases the button when the latch is opened. The door ECU needs to know when the door is open in order to detect when the door has been closed, and automatically raise the window.

Interestingly, I currently have exactly the same symptom on my driver's door - normal operation except for the window failing to raise after the door has been closed. I've been stumped as to the cause, but now I'm wondering whether the actuator arm on my microswitch is stuck in the 'closed' position, which would give the same effect as disconnecting the microswitch entirely (i.e. your situation). I'll have to pop the faceplate off tomorrow and see if my hunch is correct smile
