My Mk2 wavy tuscan has been leaving a few drips of what I presume is power steering fluid on the floor of the garage (I presume power steering fluid, it's red and feels very oily).

The manual and online says fill up using the dipstick as a level but my Mk2/3 doesn't have a dipstick. So how full should it be? There are no markings I can see so should it be brimmed? Or was the the reason there has been some overflow?

The steering feels absolutely fine.

Thanks

If you have the small aluminium bottle only fill half when cold, because when oil and engine bay gets hot the expanding room
is very small and can will leak through the ventilation hole . I think a bigger reservoir would be better (MK1 solution).
Also check the pipe going from bottle to the steering for leaks.
Worst case is that steering itself is leaking, a lot of work and only repair/rebuild possible due to my knowledge.
Results of repair are some times good and sometimes bad.

Could be a simple seal or could be the rack needs a refurb....Just keep an eye and if the topping up becomes regular get it sorted as it will spray under the car and he obvious issues with handling as the level drops on longer drives.

The gearbox oil can also be red, a number of specialist use Morris which can be used in the gearbox and power steering. Depending on where the leak is on driveway, check rear gearbox seal, where prop shaft enters gearbox. This is a relatively cheap part and a few hours labour.
