So my 5yr old ABX AGM battery has given up the ghost so a new one is on the cards.
I vaguely remember trying 2 different ones before and they were both too long for the battery tray so ended up with the ABX as it was a bit shorter.

Anyone replaced a battery recently and if so what did you go for?

Thanks!

My old one was 260mm wide and the tray is max 270mm so I couldn't fit any of the 278mm ones

I've ended up getting this 013 one with my trade discount took it below £80:

62Ah and 620 starting Amps should be ok I think.

Might as well re-use this existing topic rather than start another battery thread. My batter has also given up the ghost, but then it was allowed to discharge a bit too much a bit too often - maybe it's a sign I should be using my car a bit more! My last battery (Varta E24) did manage to last about 6 years but I'm wondering if I should go for the Varta Silver range (027) instead?

E24 - Varta Blue
Same as my last battery so I know it will fit
CCA of 630A
Cap of 70Ah
Cost £71.47 delivered (less any discount that I can wangle)
4 year Guarantee

027 - Varta Silver
Smaller in all dimensions bar the depth but I have measured 180mm so it should fit
CCA of 610A
Cap of 63Ah
Cost £68.50 delivered (less any discount that I can wangle)
5 year Guarantee

Is it worth going for the Silver over the Blue for the extra warranty and better(?) battery technology or staying with the Blue due to the higher capacity and CCA? Thoughts and comments welcomed.

I doubt the capacity will make too much difference in the real world, and my new one at 620A seems to have no problem getting the 4.3 started on one click so i'd say go with the silver.

Just to close this one off, I went for an Exide Premium EA640 from UHF Distribution in the end - 64Ah and 640 CCA, type 027. It is 242 x 175 x 190mm and I measured by battery tray/compartment as 265 x 180 x 230mm so it should fit ok. Just need to work out how best to fix it securely in place now!
