I am looking at spending about 30K on a 2000, 2001 Tuscan and i'm a little concerned about the engine problems that i keep hearing about. Is this something that only the earlier models suffered from and can anyone give me an idea of what a rebuild would cost.

I think this has been covered before. If you buy a car with a warranty then you should be more than covered.

buy as new as you can and make sure the warranty covers a rebuild. Conventional wisdom suggests 2001 cars are a better bet, but I have a 2000 car so what do I know!

Check to see if the car has had a rebuild (a give away is a TVR Blackpool stamp in the service records amongst the main dealer stamps) or you can call the factory and they can tell you. Don't let a rebuild put you off.

I don't know how much a rebuild would set you back but I would think the best part of £2500 should cover it.

If you read all the threads you'll never buy one, I did and spent ages thinking about the why's and wherefores. I'm prepared for any issues that come up but nothing can take away the stupid grin you get every time you drive it....

Cheers

9 times out of 10 the WH policies will not pay up. If your engines goes then you lose your car for 3 months if it goes to B/pool ar 2 months if it goes to TVR power.

Not ALL rebuilds have been stamped in books but a rebuild should be better than the engine you had in there from new and most of the major components are changed when the rebuild takes place.

For £30k you would get a reasonable new Tuscan (private), maybe an 02. Then get swiftly down to your dealer get a CarCar plan that TVR are now selling and for cars under 3 years old you get protection for 'WEAR and TEAR' so your rebuild would be covered if it happened (£600 for policy).

Then you won't stop grinning... Oh one thing to check there have been alot of post so far on Tuscan insurance doubleing as from 1 June this year, so have a look see how much it will cost you to insure first, some quotes Tesco seem to be good...

Apart from that I'd buy one tomorrow...

Be very careful about gaining comfort on a warranty for rebuilds. Its not as clear cut as has been made out on this thread, check other threads for more informed comment.
