Fuel pump not whirring

Help required please folks. Drove to work this morning, no problems. Parked up locked car etc etc. Just been out to the car to go the Post Office and no whirr from the fuel pump. Engine turns over fine, all other power seems to be there. Battery voltage good at 12.6 (roughly). I don't have my handbook to hand so am not sure which fuse it is. I've checked the 'reset switch' in the boot in case my tyreweld has knocked it but unless I can fathom out the problem, looks like a call to the AA. Does anyone have a photo of the fuse layout they can post on here please or any other ideas as to what I can try?

I believe the fuel pump relay is working as I can hear it click in and out when I turn the keys in the ignition but no whirr from the pump. I've tried a small bit of percussive adjustment on the relay but no change to my symptoms. Can I use one of the yellow relays in place of the (much larger - longer) black relay that's in there?

Nope, as said above, engine turns over and I get all my 'usual' lights when I've pressed the key fob, ie 2nd red light on POD display (can't remember what it is though).

maybe the ignition fuse, 20amp (or it should be, as early cars were 15amp that would blow), worth checking and pulling a few out to check.

I've checked fuses: 12 - Ignition Switch, 17 - Ignition Coils, 34 - Fuel Pump, all are fine and have not blown. I've also checked many of the other fuses - did start to work my way down the whole bank at one point!

Looks like it's gonna be a call to the AA or I'll not be going home tonight!

If you cant hear the fuel pump prime, then I would guess it's an immobilisor fault, I suggest a call to Carl Baker www.tvruk.tv

Thanks. Just had the AA man round, voltage getting to fuel pump, fuel pump not working - so it's a new fuel pump then! All I need to do now is get a new one today, fit it and then be able to drive in to work again for tomorrow! I have the Bosch part number, just need to find a stockist!

If it's not pouring down with rain tomorrow, I'll try to take a 'photo-diary' of the job. Should be collecting my new pump tomorrow morning (0930 ish) then just need to get under the car to change it etc etc.

Not sure if it is similar to the cerb, but if it is there is some guidance in the fueling section of that manual - might be useful.

Thanks FT, looks like a great resource but I can't get the .pdfs to load. I'm getting an ftp link in IE7 but it won't download or display (yes I have Acrobat installed). I've tried my ftp client (SmartFTP) but it can't log on (in anonymous mode). any clues please?

Edited to say: I've also just downloaded and installed Firefox and that can't load the ftp site either.

So, fuel pump replaced, everything back together and all appears to be well - I guess the next few days will tell!! I didn't end up taking lots of photos cos my hands were covered in oil, grease, petrol etc etc from under the car - at least it's well lubricated under there! A reasonably easy job if a bit fiddly. You've just got to make sure you don't lose and of the nuts, washers or other bits!!

The fuel pump is a Bosch 0 580 254 957 which I believe is compatible with a Bosch 0 580 254 909 (and cheaper to boot!)

I had this with my Saggy a couple of months ago. Turned out to be a broken earth wire on the "In tank" fuel pump unit.

Where did you get your new pump from, i struggled with Bosch as did my local dealer, only supplier was TVR power. Apparently Bosch only supplied TVR with the pump for the sag?

Had a few problems finding a supplier - even the Bosch website was next to useless! Tried my local motor factors:

- Hi, do you sell fuel pumps
- sorry no
- ok can you order me one please
- sorry no!!

I thought local motor factors were meant to be able to order just about anything from anywhere!

Anyway, I digress, go to Camberley auto factors and then search for your local outlet. My local outlet didn't have one in but was able to get one moved from another outlet for the following day!

I know their prices are lower than TVR Power, PM for prices etc.

Whilst recently my Tuscan hasn't done as many miles at it used to do, the fuel pump I replaced is still working away fine with no issues.
