Afternoon all,

In my seemingly never-ending quest for more speed, I'm seriously thinking about buying myself a Tuscan. Now I've heard from a few people that the required rainy day fund for one of these is pretty substantial, but I'd like to get an idea of on average how much it actually costs to run a Tuscan per year, I'm talking maintenance and servicing mostly, not necessarily fuel costs which I can probably guess will be pretty high!

So if any Tuscan owners here can throw me some numbers so I can try to get an idea whether I can actually afford one of these things or not, that would be a big help...

Ta much!

In the last 10 years of my tuscan's life each annual service has cost £1600 to £2000. That does include anything that's not right being replaced, but that doesn't included tyres. Petrol all depends how you drive, I do a 200 mile trip from London to Devon and I can do it with 1 tank. Did a tunnel run last year and burnt over half a tank doing about 30 miles! smile

I use an independent specialist - the annual servicing doesn't come in anything like that, although my current car has only typically needed one service each year. Yes - some parts might end up being quite expensive where they are specialist, fuel consumption can be as good as 25mpg or as bad as you want! Depends upon the mileage and use you're expecting, naturally.

When you go and view cars you will probably be handed a whole sheaf of receipts so you can see just what has been spent and what it cost. In fact if you don't, you're not really able to go in with your eyes open.

I remember being shocked at my 1996 Griff's (my previous TVR which I used everyday and bought at about 6 years old) first couple of service invoices - but again, and not running on a shoestring exactly, regular servicing on a 15-16,000 mile a year car was not as much as that quoted above!

I think over the nearly 7 years I've owned mine, servicing, repairs & tyres average approx 2k a year. I haven't needed any major engine work (yet!) and I do some work on it myself. This is based on averaging about 6k miles a year.

You can spend as much as you want...look at MY GARAGE (in profile) if you have any doubts. What do you NEED to spend is a different question... a good service(6k-12k) with no problems £400-£600. Engine re-build...well you might aswell make it a Power 4.3, so what is now £5-6k.

This is one of those threads that can be a little misleading.
It depends on how careful (or not like me) the owner was when buying.

My Mk1 Tuscan was aa early 2000 model and even though I had had a Wedge and Chiamera before I still screwed up big time. Sent my Wife to check it out as I was in the US. silly
It so it cost me, over the first 12 monthes of ownership, an average of ................................................................ 1,000 quid / month. yikes
BUT even with all the work I had done with rebuilds, having to ship her back from Germany etc., I still loved the car to bits and was totally gutted when I smashed her up. banghead

In contrast my Mk2 is not demanding of my wallet apart from a new radiator.
Shes an absolutely beauty. cloud9
This time its more a case of what would I like to do such as decats.
She's in for an MOT next week and will get new pads but I've asked for new shocks and springs at the same time so that will add another 1k on the bill.
Fancy them carbon fibre seat backs as well.....................etc etc etc.

Be careful because once they get under your skin you are a lost cause.

My 2k ish pa is what I've needed to spend to keep it running. I've only had one service when something additional didn't need doing but maybe I've been unlucky?

I agree you can spend as much as you like. That amount doesn't include the Nitrons, new cans, decat & chip, bigger front discs etc etc.

If you pay someone else to sort the time consuming niggles you can spend alot. I recently changed my LCD screen - £100 for part but several hundred pounds at a dealer to fit.

Mine has only ever cost me servicing and consumables.....but I do have an AA warranty (never used) and have a mentally 'set aside' for an engine rebuild should it need one.

Best advice is buy wisely - if I was buying again I would use a finder service - I consider it luck that I ended up with a decent one as I was so excited by it I would have bought anything!!

I would budget for £2k a year but don't expect it to be 'level' like that - £400 one year, £1600 the next etc.

Yes, £100 for the part, 2-3 hours labour max to fit unless you do it yourself! I'd be having a word with whoever charged you several hundred to fit...

4 years ownership equated to about £1000 a year running.

Oh, and mines for sale - stop messing about and buy it! (PM me - it's off the classified at the mo since it's under offer but my patience may run out).
