Hi All

I have a chimaera fitted with a later bosch wiper motor, I believe these are also in the Tuscans. The car is a late 2000 model.

The wipers will not park? The intermitent wipe will also not work.

Is this likely to be a motor problem, a relay problem or something else?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Liam

Hi Liam,

Had a problem with mine blowing the fuse half way through a wipe. I have a early Tuscan 2001 with the same motor. I removed mine to test using a spare battery, 20amp inline fuse and an botched cabling system. On test the motor had no settings for intermittant etc it's either on or off. So I would hazzard a guess there may be some sort of switch within the wiper arm selector or possibly further along the line ? It would be nice if anyone had a wiring diagram and they could post it here. The resolution for mine was having a rummage around under the dash !! this seems to have cleared the problem. Sorry I can't be of more help
Cheers
Jonathon

Normally the external park switch mounted on the underneath of the motor. They get wet and fail with monotonous regularity, especially on Chimaeras and Griffs.

A search here or on Google should turn up a picture of the offending part.

Thanks for the replies, looks like I'm going to have to take the motor out and test it. There isn't an external park switch as per most of the chimaeras/griffs, TVR decided to use the later bosch motor in some of the later models.

I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks

Liam

Holy thread resurrection.

I had a similar problem. No intermittent, no wiper park and no fast wipe. I have just replaced the park switch and cleaned all connections. I still have no intermittent and no wiper park but I do have normal and fast wipe.

What's next? Or, could it be that wiper mechanism isn't activating the park switch?

When I say no wiper park, they just stop when the stalk is switched from normal.

Another thread resurrection here ..........

Same problem - no intermittent, no park, everything else ok wiper wise, did anyone ever figure out what caused this?

(Just to repeat, Bosch wiper motor, not Lucas)

Many thanks in advance for any input smile

Had the same on my Chimaera,
Have replaced the park switch, replaced the relay, replaced the connector to the motor, replaced the wiring from the motor to the bulkhead but still no luck.
I contacted a guy recommended on PH who refurbishes the motors and he told me some park switches aren't as good as they should be. Sent him the motor for a complete refurb including new park switch.
When I got it back it worked for around 3 weeks and then back to normal again.

Only thing I haven't changed is the dash switch and wiring from teh switch to the bulkead, which is hard to locate.

Any comments about water affecting the park switch are not relevant to later model Chimaeras with the Bosch motor, which is mounted inside the cabin just above the driver's knees. There is an empty space in the corner of the engine bay where the wiper motor isn't!

On these later cars, it's worth checking the fuse that protects the wiper park circuit - on my car it's the fuse fourth from the left IIRC, a 20A fuse. When this fuse blows, the wipers will park in seemingly random places. My car has a habit of blowing this fuse every 6 to 12 months for some reason. This fuse also feeds the brake lights, so it's important to eliminate this possibility!

Checked that already, the brake lights are working fine, that would have been too easy smile

Mine ended up being the relay in the fuse board. Itkept working loose. I ended up taping it in place.
Hope this helps?

My car is also a Chimaera, I Googled the problem and ended up on this thread.

Is your motor a Bosch one for sure, I see from your profile your car is a 97, I thought they had the Lucas wiper motors in the engine compartment at that point in production?

Assuming like my car the motor is inside the car under the dash how big a deal was it to get it out of there, looks like a right pig of a job?

Thanks for that - mine isn't loose but I may have been thrown off the scent by it affecting the parking too, never known an intermittent wiper relay failure to do that.

Will stick a new one in there before I go any further in case it is just that.
