Hi

Took mine apart, cleaned it and reseated it. Clamped it back down and now it is almost perfect.
/connector. Thanks to RICH192 for help as well.

I think the route cause for the failure is that vibration or age causes the display to move relative to the pads, that then causes the lines. If I can repair permanently then I will document and put up a sticky. Only do if your dash is buggered though as you have nothing to lose. The display is held in place by pressure from the case and I think that this loosen over time. Mine is only a couple of years old looking at the numbers.

Glad it worked well, I've also been asked to put on a few pics of how to dismantle the LCD display so here go's.

The metal tabs that need to be bend to a straight position in order to remove the metal cover are circled in red.

Then remove the cover from the screen. The screen can then be removed from the light box, this light box missing on the one shown on the photo, you do not need to remove the light box.

The screen may be attached by a ribbon cable, however newer ones are not connected at all.

The connections that need to be cleaned are circled in red and they are on both sides of the screen, the silicon strips down the side of the screen also need to be cleaned and the connections on the glass screen that are under the silicon strips. These should be wiped with a lint free cloth to remove any dust and residue that can build up over the years.

Then place it back together and make sure that when the metal cover is back the metal tabs are twisted such that it is a tight fit to ensure a good connection.

As has already been said this is a job that should be done if you have nothing to lose as i wouldn't want anyone to damage there screen and make it worse.

If anyone requires any further information please just ask and i can add more detail.

Beat me to it!

I have one or two lines left but it was a rush job the first time round. I did it blind as the display was buggered anyway and had nothing to loose. The way the display is held together is very bad, and it should be sealed to stop the dust/damp penetrating. My screen couldn't have been more than 2 years old looking at the build number.

All good fun though!
