rover 25 2005 starting problem

hi all

i have had my rover 25 1.4 for 7 years in its time have changed head belts etc

anyway went to it this morning turnd the key sounded like whizzing noise on starter took about 20 seconds then started but roughly. then engine light came on dash

has never sounded like a wizzing noise before on starter

Maybe you're all sorted now. maybe not so here goes :~

Many possibilities. Here's one which may fit what you describe.

Whizzing noise? Was it like a rapid clicking? Could be solenoid struggling and unable to engage starter due to lack of sufficient battery power. The battery recovers sufficiently to enable a start.

How old is the battery? This time of year any battery a bit below par could perform as you have described.

Really need more information to have any chance of a remote accurate diagnosis.

I know this was months ago, but you've "overfueled" it. You must have started it for perhaps 10 or 15 seconds the day before, maybe moved the car a few yards, then switched off. Very common problem on Jags and Fords as well as Rovers.
