A simple pricing solution would be to offer electronic tags to all UK registered vehicles at MOT centres for a niminal one off fee. The tag then becomes a visible indicator of an MOT, and can be used for numerous access points accross the UK and is recoded at each MOT annniversary.

All non tagged vehicles pay a fee to use the crossing.
Liking your thinking, but it's too straightforward and fair ever to become law in the UK.

My Grandfather used to espouse the view that the tax disc should entitle the 'holder' (private motorist named on the V5) to free transport on public transport. That would lessen traffic. And the motorist probably contributes more than enough already to keep it running.

On behalf of the people, all proceeds should go to the Labour Party - they'll know what to do with the money.

Not a bad idea, but only if South East Essex can be partitioned by an inpenetrable barrier (something like the Berlin wall) ...hehe
