RE: Police chase BMW at 140mph on M25
Discussion
A new BMW, 140MPH at 2:40AM,,, erm,,, whats the problem?
IF they were after the chap for a crime then fair play BUT if this is all over a car doing what its supposed to do then the bobbies have just lost yet a little more support in my book.
JAIL?
For getting home faster than the number on a stick said,,,

Wow, slow news day then. 140? As mentioned before who has not managed that on their own private section of unmonitored road?
Middle of the night, no other traffic, no one hurt, expensive bill for new tyres and a ban. I would imagine that cost a crapload in overtime, manpower, petrol, wear and tear on police vehicles and a lot more on court fees. What a waste of time.
Kind of hope the guy gets a good brief.

I've never managed above 14 mph on the M25 yet.
And maybe this 'felon' could have been halted by firing a missile from one of the Olympic rooftop sites? Much less labour intensive, and footage could be sold to 'Police, Camera, Theakston' for use in one of their shows.
Dont give the Fascists more moneymaking ideas, its possible they hadnt thought that up yet. It doesnt take much for them to get big ideas on how they can CASH IN. They'll get overexcited, eager to play with their idiot-amusement toys AND blow up someones granny just so they can USE IT. All to be aired on Mouth-Breather TV for the inbreds.
Great Britain eh???
I would tend to subscribe to the 'who was it hurting?' posts already made.
However, it seems that stingers and rolling road blocks are all a bit over the top given the situation surely? Police always say they try to limit the danger to other road users as well as their own officers. Can I ask then, why they saw fit to chase this idiot with multiple cars? The Surrey helicopter could have very discretely tracked him to his destination with a car following at a safe distance and the bust could then have taken place in absolute safety. One thing is for sure, a BMW travelling at 140 mph is not going to go too far before it needs fuel of one description or another!
As it is, we go instead for the 'Dukes of Hazzard' option and put far more people's lives in danger. Strange.

Nonsense !Here are some real numbers from a recent trip.
293 miles, 31.3 mpg, 61.2 average mph, max about 100 mph
361 miles, 29.4 mpg, 62.4 average mph, max 155 mph
108 miles, 36 mpg, 41 average mph, max 89 mph
417 miles, 28.2 mpg, 71.6 average mph, max 142 mph
459 miles, 28.5 mpg, 70.2 average mph, max 145 mph
Worst case of 28.2 mpg gives tank range of 391 miles.

Just spoke to my new manager.
She was driving to the Frankfurt office at the time
I asked her how fast she was going and get the very casual response of "200".
Clearly that's not mph but again, no one died and it was perfectly legal.
If women can safely drive at those speeds, just imagin what us men are capable of
Your right, it was perfectly legal............ in Germany. Driving at 140 is easy, put your right foot down, no problem. If you choose to drive at twice the speed limit, no matter what your views are, or time of night, your probably going to be stopped and booked, wonder what speeds he drives in a 30 At night. She was driving to the Frankfurt office at the time

You could drive at 220 mph on the M25 in the early hours and as some will say "well no one got killed"......Totally irresponsible.

Whilst in a slightly different league wasn't it reported that a Veyron at full speed empties its tanks in 11 minutes or something equally crazy?

Actually, it is more probable that you will not get stopped and booked.dcb said:
