Anyone here bought it so far?
I don't think anyone would own up to it .

I may buy one in 5 years time when you start seeing them on eBay for buy it now for £350.
But for that I would want low mileage and main dealer history oh I forgot theirs no such thing as a main dealer so I will have to negotiate on the price. smile

On the bright side though new spares should be available in abundance on eBay as it seems ebay only sells fake Chinese goods these days so it will be cheap to buy spares for.

So you should be able to buy Micky mouse coil overs from hong kong and Chinese K series head gaskets made out of cheap cardboard and cheap cats that barely last 10 minutes for the emission test and badly fitting exhausts in abundance as the car will be well catered for in China
There are main dealers.

It doesn't have a K series, it's an all new engine.

It could do 300mpg, 250mph and handle like an F1 car but nobody will want it because it's not German...

Don't worry the K series head gasket is a weak point in the Mustang engined ZT 260 as well.

It doesn't actually have to have one for it to fail...

My step sons girlfriend is picking her new MG up today. I tried to talk her out of it but it was cheap, new and shiny so depreciation, build quality and bad engine reviews seem to not matter!

I've seen 5 or 6 of these now. They look like a fabia but more square. God know why you would buy one over a Kia

Why oh why won't this brand just die! Every MG throughout history has been a total POS, I just can't understand how any petrol head could every get excited by one.

As I said my step sons girlfriend has had hers a month now, the paint work is a bit orange peel the interior plastics are cheap to say the least and the door release handles feel flimsy. BUT it has cruise control, hill start, auto wipers/headlights, climate control, alloys etc and it's 10k the equivalent Clio is 17k I think. It's a no brainer really, I still wouldn't have one though!

Hmmm, surely a petrol head would like fast cars that handle well, not sure where they stack up to any of their modern peers.

The love people have for the Rover 75 style MG's amazes me, I don't know what they're called and have no interest in finding out. I'm pretty open minded about a broad range of cars but the two I really don't get are MG's and Beetle's.

I remember a colleague taking me for a "spin" in his brand new MGF, it was very slow, handled like crap and broke down all the time, which for me summed up the brand. As I said just let it die without dignity, but I don't need to wish it, the market will do the talking (for what the 4th time?!).

On practically any Sunday, there will be MGs of all ages - pre-war to the current breed - competing at circuits and sprints/hillclimbs, and doing well. The MGF is popular in sprints and hill climbs because it offers 160 brake in a mid-engined package, and to get more in an affordable, up to 2 litre class car, you have to go fwd which is not so much fun on track.

Last year I came across some Longbridge guys really taking the mickey in sprints in their MG6 Diesel. God knows how, but they did.

For cars that 'don't handle', MGs have been good in sport from the 1920's to today. smile

I do agree you have a point and I used to hang around hill climbs a fair bit in my youth with quite a few people with MG's and I think to an extent this is where most of my dislike for the brand stems from. Yes they were competitive in their specific class on a budget etc but I just didn't get the LOVE people have for these things, that's what I really struggled with. I can see the appeal of a classic and beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that but any of the newer MG's were just junk, and as I said I think this is why they have been such a huge commercial flop in recent times.

MG needs to come up with some wow factor and innovation and not just releasing cars that are not quite a good as any reasonable competition. MG should be a sports car brand and make desirable sports cars, something like an Alfa 4C competitor would do it for me and I think would be where the brand should be.

For the cost of cruise control, hill start, auto wipers/headlights and climate control they could have added a fold down roof or a supercharger or an extra cylinder or two. Alloys were once a good thing, probably back in the 60s, since when the market has been more about fashion and style than any real advantage.

This is Pistonheads, not Geekheads or Tatheads.

Perhaps, just perhaps, focusing on stuff that actually makes a car fun would help sell cars that are marketed as being fun. Which possibly makes you completely correct not to want one!

Looks like the front off a corsa and the rear off a punto. Design is fine for the demographic i'd guess and I'd rather an MG badge than vauxhall or fiat.

If they price it cheap enough and the interior is not a mess then it might do OK as a very basic entry level car.

It's not bad but it's not good either! Is OK enough though, I want my car if I was to buy a new car to be WOW not just ok.

But they weren't. All of those cars you mention were all perfectly fine cars when they came out. The Maestro may not have been the very best hatch of all time but it was a very long way from being bad. All the others were right up there with it all at the time.
