Well , i say good on MG for sticking it out in th UK.
i doubt this will tear people away from thier beloved german diesel shopping carts, but looks interesting and dare i say "different" in a sea of endlessly grey & boring vehicles these days!
I even saw an MG6 the other day while out on a drive, smart enough from the outside and apparentlybthe engine isnt half bad either (for what it is).
Maybe opnions will change towards MG one day, but i doubt it - which is a crying shame. The UK population has a habit of resting on its laurels and not deviating from the norm for fear of being DIFFERENT and UNIQUE -shock-
It seems to be easier just to take the piss out of them and say they are crap........

Oh I agree with you 100% there. The reason for that is due to public perception of the brand which, the reasons for being above, wont change unless MG manage to flood the market with these things, and they turn out to be reliable etc etc........which wont happen because no one will buy one.
Unless it's made in Germany these days the British public seem to have such scorn for any product, car or home appliance.
I will never understand this strange phenomenon. Then again, no one buys a car because they like the model anymore, it all seems to be about low Co2 and high MPG. I guess petrolheads like us are a rapidly declining breed......

It's the market we're in. I bought a new Mondeo in 2009 for £12k, a hyper-bargain. However, running through an insurance renewal, I was quite chocked to see that 09 cars are now worth £5-6k and 08 cars are worth about £4-5k. ....which wont happen because no one will buy one.

It's criminal the way cars devalue in this country, it doesn't happen in other countries so why here? Still, it made me realise what a stunning bargain the Mk IV Mondeo is. I would have felt physically sick had I paid list price though.

You bought the car you wanted/ that was a bargain & now it has taken a hit (a big one) in values because everyboby else wanted something else....... EVERYBODY (think flock of TDi sheep), and now you have to suffer value wise for it.
Whilst this is brilliant for used car buyers (myself being one - SAAB aero for £4K anyone???) looking for something interesting and different - it puts others off buying the car that they actually might want when new.
Car mags don't help with this, as they always bleat on about residual values etc etc - review the sodding car! Not the price!

I think some people are being unduly harsh on this car.
Personally I think it looks pretty good with pretty cool specs and touches and certainly no worse than a corsa or fiesta. They are clearly marketing it at young people, which when you consider the lowish price and insurance grouping is a wise move - Chuck in some decent finance packages and they should sell.
My only concern would be the engine in terms of C02 and efficiency compared to the opposition. If its anything like the MG6 it will struggle to be competitive, that said, the MG6 engine is based on what is now a pretty old design - hopefully this is an all new lump not just a down size of the MG6's K-series based engine. That said, Vauxhall and Ford engines (with possible exception of the new eco boost engine) are hardly ground breaking stuff either

I don't think anyone would own up to it .I may buy one in 5 years time when you start seeing them on eBay for buy it now for £350.
But for that I would want low mileage and main dealer history oh I forgot theirs no such thing as a main dealer so I will have to negotiate on the price.
On the bright side though new spares should be available in abundance on eBay as it seems ebay only sells fake Chinese goods these days so it will be cheap to buy spares for.
So you should be able to buy Micky mouse coil overs from hong kong and Chinese K series head gaskets made out of cheap cardboard and cheap cats that barely last 10 minutes for the emission test and badly fitting exhausts in abundance as the car will be well catered for in China
