This is nothing more that a load of hot air from the Department of Transport during the silly season to make it look as though they are doing something. First you have to define lane hogging, otherwise it won't stand up in court and then you have to find the extra BIBs to enforce it. I would also be happy to see phone users and tailgaiters targeted but that won't happen either due to lack of resources.
Does the fact that its been in the news (and the Mail) mean that law abiding citizens will conform? And thus no enforcement will be required....or at least there will be some impact without enforcement.
Obviously the habitual, mindless people who couldn't care less about their standard of driving or holding others up will continue as usual but this might make a percentage of people think, as it's now "illegal"
Just a thought.

my expereince last bank holiday weekend with 450miles round trip to south wales - ppl still drive all over the road!!
some on the middle lane with the lane on the left empty, don't even see blo0dy lights being flashed from behind to move over!!
oh well.. atleast over time..
Alot of people view flashing of lights as a sign of aggression and so don't do it. I find once they move over a friendly wave can defuse the situation.some on the middle lane with the lane on the left empty, don't even see blo0dy lights being flashed from behind to move over!!

Often when I have passenger they arent 100% comfortable with the flash of the lights, I only do it after giving those in front a reasonable time to move over of show they are making some form of progress whilst overtaking.
The new laws would be great if there was any kind of enforcement. Sadly the police long ago seem to have abandoned any attempt to enforce the law on the roads, which results in widespread ignorant, aggressive, stupid driving.
Being in a car gives people anonymity and removes their inhibitions and so gives an insight into their true behaviour when freed of social constraints. It's not a flattering picture.

As everyone has said, pointless without enforcement. However, as I keep saying, this whole "new laws" story is merely a smokescreen to distract people from the almost doubling in the lowest speeding fine (an offence that doesn't require human enforcement). From the Mail article.
