our council uses Skoda superb for the mayor. can't say I begrudge them that. However in th'olden days Rolls and Daimlers where the car of the Mayor.
Knaresborough? He lives down my street. Very regal with the flags atop the front wings.

Haha fair point on the fact that Bentley's are manufactured in Cheshire. Supporting their local industry I guess; but still excessive in my opinion at that price!
and VW Group's botton line....

I wouldn't worry about it. After seeing topgear last night I now where the worlds wealth is going. Dubai police cars.
Don't believe they are used on normal patrols just promotions and a show of force.

Talk about using statistics to you own gain.

Do people honestly think these councils are going on a buying spree, it don't any of the these councils actually "own" any of the bloody cars, they will be lease cars.

The way it normally works is officers who do over X miles a year (for work purposes) get a fixed amount to put towards a car. You either use that to buy something cheap and cheerful or put some of your own cash towards it and get what you want.

They are nipping down to the local Audi dealer buying a job lot of A4's then handing them out in canteen.

Funnily enough, I walked past the mayor of York's rather fancy looking limo the other day, and though "oh,that looks expensive".... Little did I know that once I got back home and swanned about on Google for a bit I'd find out that the number plate alone was worth £100,000. (http://www.nationalnumbers.co.uk/articles/lord-mayors-dn1-limo-number-plate-valued-at-100k-2277)It'd be criminal if it weren't so ridiculously over-the-top hilarious; why can't they just have a nice big Jaguar or something instead?

The information about the Cheshire council Bentley Mayoral / Council cars is incorrect. It is my understanding thatr they are leased by the company to the Councils, not sold and they are not leased at anything like market rates but at the special rates reserved for members of the royal family. There is no way the council would agree to spending £100,000+ on a ceremonial car but, as the brand is based in the county, they give very advantageous rates on leasing cars which are no more than they would spend on a Merc or a Jag.
