Press Release

ANNOUNCING THE FLYING ISETTA

We've been wanting to build a flying car for many years. We decided to use an Isetta as a base which has been re-bodied in strong, light-weight carbon fibre. The big removable Kevlar-covered wings are equipped with large effective ailerons and raised tips for excellent low-speed controllability. The wings remove for easy transportation.

The Flying Isetta is powered by twin 9.5 hp Rotax engines of 185cc each with 24” long propellers. Although 9.5 hp each may sound measly, it's all the Flying Isetta needs to achieve excellent flight performance. We have plans to use turbocharged engines for increased performance. For road use, the original single cylinder 298cc engine is retained.

With both Rotax engines purring away the performance of the aircraft is good. It can easily cruise at 95 knots burning a combined two gallons[US] per hour. The aeroplane takes off in 150 feet or less and lands in about the same. It has a very slow sink rate (333 feet per minute) and the Flying Isetta can be soared like a sailplane if you have strong enough lift conditions.

Now that all the safety certificates have been awarded, we have taken the Isetta to the next stage of production. Our manufacturing partners, SC Air US Inc. are based in Spoo Falls, Idaho. We have completed 5 aircraft which will be supplied to radio stations for traffic spotting.

As soon as we have received certification for turbocharged engines, we shall be building a long wheel base version which will carry 4 passengers including the pilot. With the short take off and landing needs [ STOL ], this version would make an ideal Air Taxi.

We have recently finished two new prototypes, the IsettaHover and the IsettaFan.

The IsettaHover is powered by 20 engines from the DJI Phantom 2 Drone. The batteries are charged by a quad team of gerbils running in 3D printed wheels which drive a bespoke generator. The range of the IsettaHover is 34 miles and it can travel over water. Braking is achieved via a steering wheel mounted switch. This operates a solenoid to engage a gear which reverses the output of the gerbil wheels causing the generator and drone fans to go into reverse. The aerodynamic effect pulls the IsettaHover to a stop very sharply. The kinetic effect adds charge to the lithium batteries.

The IsettaFan is ideal for high speed travel across flat surfaces such as beaches or salt flats. The aerodynamic Isetta bodyshape allows more comfort than an open cockpit design.

We will keep you informed of future developments.
