He had all driver aids turned off.

Car was in race mode.

Conditions were good. He ran out of talent.

Any reason for bringing this back up again?

Any reason why you asked why he brought it up?

It's been nearly 4 years since the last post so was just curious.
Do you have an issue with that?

Of course, I was just pointing out that saying you should leave it to a professional racing driver when he is in fact one himself is incorrect.

Can you define "professional racing driver"?

According to the Daily Mail:

"The charges come after the publication of a magisterial report last month concluded Bailey, who is a car enthusiast rather than professional driver, did not have the 'necessary skills' to drive the vehicle at such speeds."

I just find it peculiar that somebody has decided to revive this thread with no new info nearly 4 years down the line. Odd

Slightly more up to date - https://www.driverdb.com/drivers/paul-bailey-65319... - perhaps the definition of professional is different.

I assumed it meant it was a person's main paid occupation, which implies they are pretty good at what they do, in this case, driving a fast car?

I’d say he didn’t do so badly.
In my opinion the definition of professional should be that you actually get paid to drive - like the drivers who share cars with wealthy (often very good) drivers in GT3 and the like

That's really great, thanks for pointing that out! Anyone with an ounce of sense would understand the the 'pro' comment is usually means people with a very high level of skill, not a rich guy who has paid his way in to races.

You're an angry fella aren't you.

You realise to become a professional racing driver, the standards are the same for everyone.
Just because he has money, does not mean he has no talent.

With respect, this isn't in the slightest bit true.

eta, according to this list :

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&a...

Paul Bailey is a bronze driver, defined as:

https://www.fia.com/file/115782/download

"A bronze driver is defined as an amateur driver who meets at least one of the following criteria:

any driver who was over 30 years old when his/her first licence was issued, and who has little or no single-seater experience;
any driver over 30, previously categorised as Silver, but with no significant results (titles, pole positions or race wins);
any driver under 30 years old with a licence issued for the first time during the year of his first categorisation."
