But isn't it to be known as JLR and isn't LR short for Land Rover?

Also to close dealerships from 80 to less than 20. Friend who has a Jaguar already complains the number dealers and service points service is poor,

If Mike Brewer is shocked it must be time to call in the COBRA committee!

Quote from the article you posted:

"JLR said the Land Rover name won’t disappear completely with some models carrying the badging inside and out as a ‘trust mark’."

And what does the "L" in "JLR" stand for, I wonder?

Maybe its the reputation for unreliability and lousy customer service that JLR are trying to distance itself from

It's been coming for a while.

A pivot to pushing Defender, Discovery and Range Rover as full brands with their own ranges. I wouldn't be surprised if they announced a smaller and cheaper Defender "sport" or whatever this year.

To be fair I think a smaller Defender is a great idea, but I can't see it being much cheaper, and while it's going to take them 4 years to launch, and then presumably go on sale with an instant 2 year waiting list, it has dented it's appeal.

I have to say in contrary to that, the service from Listers Land Rover in Hereford is exceptional. Without doubdt the best dealer experience I’ve ever had. They were great with me when I had my disco sport (which I didn’t buy from there), and when buying my new Defender/after sales have been absolutely mega. It must be a complete lottery.
