Discussion
Sorry everyone - off thread for the moment.
Someone asked earlier about a V8 M3 - well there is one (briano). Racing Dynamics have shoehorned the M5 V8 into an M3 bodyshell. Oh, and tuned the engine to 500Bhp - blimey.
Not on the website yet, but was reported in this months Evo magazine in the UK. Oh, and expect to pay £96,000 for the car - cor blimey...

Oh and while I am here - BMWs are not particularily liked due to their image. They still do have that "w@nker" image from the late 80's early 90's. That Audi advert was so spot on. Stupid thing is that the image no longer stands as most BMW drivers are just about anyone.
Best example that I have is the middle aged fat women being all snotty in a shop. Couldnt possibly take out their purchase to the car and could one of the assistants. Then started to say rather loudly "its the BMW Coup" (not Coup and not Coupe). Turned out to be a 316i - christ on a bike, why bother. Cant even pull the skin of custard. I have a TD Citroen that develops 92BHP compared with 106 of a 316..... Not really a sports car is it?!?!?
Thats why people dont like BMWs - the small minority of owers.
Cheers,
Paul

Audioguy,
A little sense of humour? Provocative, with tongue-in-cheek? Hope so!
Knowing 'NOTHING about automobiles' means you want us to believe the opposite, but I wonder just how much you really do know. Tell us about it !
Ultimate driving machine? Probably Ferrari 550 Maranello (or 360 Modena if two seats OK).

Hello again Audioguy!
Yup, and owned five others over the years, but admit the 550 costs more than I would like to spend.
Don't get me wrong here; I admire BMWs technically, but they just don't gel with me.
However, this discussion is about the M3CSL - a concept car which you can't put a price on. The nearest equivalent would be the M3GTR, forecast at approx. $219,825 (250,000 Euros), so I don't think I'm too far out with the 550 Maranello. And if the CSL does eventually go into production it won't be below 360 Modena territory pricewise.
Let's come down to earth though! Before going near a BMW I would have a Porsche 996 Turbo (practicality), or a Jaguar XKR (luxury), or a TVR Tuscan (thriller) or, finally, a Noble M12 (where the future is). Bet you would love them all - and maybe change your mind!
Incidentally, feed your lust by having a look at a good BMW site: www.m3forum.com/newspro/whatsnews.shtml

If we are comparing a somewhat limited production vehicle such as the M3 to an exotic restricted production vehicle like the 550, which I might add is exponentially more expensive.
--------------------------------------
i belive the M3CSL is gona cost around the same as a 550 about £150,000

Thought I'd throw in my threepence worth.
I have an M3 E46, also a Caterham Seven and a couple of 'regular' road cars.
Personally I can't see the point of the 'lightweight' M3, because they'd have to take a SHEDLOAD more than 200 kg off the weight to make it light.
I've driven my M3 round Donington, Combe, Goodwood, Autodrome etc and I can tell you, you'd have to lose at least 500 kg to make the car track savvy.
I've also cooked 3 sets of pads and a set of discs - as they are complete cr*p on track.
AP racing are at present making a whole new brake system for my car - which should at least mean the damn thing will stop after 5 laps.
Having said that, having driven dozens of road cars over the past (cripes) nearly 30 years - from TVR's to Minis - The M3 is a truly astonishing car for the road. It eats the miles, is very comfortable, and overtakes slower vehicles with unbelievable ease. The traction control is the best I've ever tried, and I feel completely ok about lending the car to others (provided they keep it ON!).
BMW cars and drivers are hated in England - but interestingly, seemingly nowhere else in the world (generally not in Scotland, where I live for half the year). If I'm in the beemer driving to London, I just allow a few more minutes, as I know nobody will let me in! Says a lot for:
1. the dreadful driving of many BMW drivers - I see it too!
2. The daft prejudice of those who haven't driven one
(They don't keep winning car of the year 'cos they are cr*p!)
If you are interested there are some 'in car' vids (inc. the M3) on my track-day site.
