By the way, my previous post is not an arguement in favour of automated road charging, I am completely opposed to any form of road charging for a number of reasons, the main reasons being:

a) It will end up as a further financial burden on motorists
b) It won't resolve congestion, as it does not tackle the root causes
c) I resent having my movements tracked (and no, I have nothing to hide)
d) You'd never know what you will be charged for a journey because of price variations imposed for different roads and different times. This then make it hard to plan my family budget each month.
e) Less well off people may be excluded from travelling
f) Unregistered vehicles and car cloning will be further encouraged
g) People who work don't normally have much choice about start/finish times, or the opportunity to tele-commute. They certainly don't travel in peak times for the fun of it.
h) Government IT projects are poorly executed, and official databases are notoriously inaccurate.

Of course, if they can iron out these little niggles, I'd be happy to reconsider my opinions.

Up to us to do something about it?? Didn't this country behave as a democracy before Blair, Brown, Prescott et al were voted in?

Vote is an anagram of veto - why are so many people apparently unhappy with the way the country is being run yet unable to exercise a democratic vote to change the government?
Could it be there is no viable offer of political opposition, just hot-air - like this reply!!!
I've spoken to a great number of people who didn't vote for the bunch of clowns in 'power' but to hardly any who admit they voted for them.
How many fed-up motorists are there? at least enough to cause havoc at local and national elections but apart from Capt Gatso no-one seems able to marshall ACTION.
'Safe-speed', ABD and other fringe groups don't seem able to express themselves clearly enough to attract real membership and loyalty. So yes it is up to us - but who are we/us??

So what is the date and time of the blockage? I will certainly be there and we have four cars in the household so that is a standard width motorway blocked - need a bit of support from some others though!

I have to be slightly careful what I say here, but my opinion of the Highways Agency is pretty low having had some inside info as to what they are doing with their new national comms network. HA in my opinion do virtually nothing to help the road network of this country, they allow roadworks to run for too long, they seem to have no control over their road-works contractors, they are hell-bent on looking at new ways to surviell everyone and to bill people for road use, with an almost total neglect of keeping the roads in a good state and keeping the nations arteries flowing. I think it must be a qualification to work for HA that you can demonstarte a total lack of commonsense ! Why does it take any roadworks project in the UK so long to complete ? I drive regularly in most of the Western European countries, and I know what I see compared to the UKs roads.
I think HA contractors should be severeley penalised for a) having any roads coned-off with no activities in progress, or b)simply for not finishing projects in any sort of reasonable timescale.
