Well, at least one of us did wink

I think you'll be amazed at how many people are put off by LHD. But, as you and I both know, they shouldn't let that stop them.

But you're right, the Mustang offers everything a new Capri could or should offer and it's available NOW.

Love Capris.

My dad had a few. A 2.0S, A 2.0 Laser, A 2.8 Special and a 280 Brooklands.

I'd love to see something in a similar vein to the Mustang.

Oh and with a modern interpretation of the pepperpot, a suitably large bonnet bulge and some recaro's with fishnet head rests.

Just as a slight OT.

There's all these supercar clubs etc. knocking around, but wouldn't it be cool if someone did an "old school heroes" club.

Ford Capri 2.8
Mk1 & Mk2 Escort RS2000.
FIAT X1/9
Mk1 Golf GTi
Mk1 Scirocco Storm
Pug 205 GTi 1.9.

Cheap membership but well looked after cars. Would be cool to bring back a few memories on the odd weekend or get to drive the cars you loved when you were young but never got round to having a go in.

Anyone fancy setting up the PH car club?

Any other cars you'd add to (or remove from smile) the list?

Should this be a separate thread?
You've missed out the Toyota MR2 Mk1,..shame on you!nono

I've thought of setting up a V6 drivers club, you would get an interesting cross section of cars in the club, providing there is the variety of different cars out there.

Yes but "I'm about to lose control and I think I like it" usually follows.... wink

As for what cars were as much fun as the Capri in the 70s - Celica 2000GT, Scirocco GTi Mk 1 and Droop Snoot Firenza/2300SL spring to mind. I confess I never really liked the Capri. I drove several and they were always a great disappointment and the Firenza handled better and had coil springs. The Droop Snoot was drop dead gorgeous too.
I know that!grumpy,..I had to stop somewhere, I just wanted to get across my sence of excitemnt about this news.

I missed out a lot of cars. That's why I asked if there were any to add. The MR2 was a Jap copy of the X1/9, and I included that. smile

The X/19 is as rare as hens teeth, there are not many of them around now, they suffer from rot worse than the MR2 Mk1!, and that's saying something!eek

A friend of mine owns a Fiat X/19, he says it's great fun!biggrin, better than the Mk1yikes. I'm just a huge MR2 Mk1 fan, and would put the Toyota above the Fiat anyday.

I've had 3 X1/9s in my time. Rust was a major issue, but by god was it a good car to drive. I had a 4 pipe Ansa exhaust that went rusty so I adapted it a bit when I was doing a welding class. The noise it made when fitted to the car was epic. It had a habit of setting off car alarms as I drove past. Many happy memories.

I had a mate with a Mk1 MR2. He let me drive that once and it went like a rocket. He forgot to tell me that the rear tyres were virtually bald and I had an interesting time when I booted it coming off a roundabout.

This was my dream X1/9 though....

I prefer the designs on the previous page.

The auto Express picture, in my eyes is a coupe that is based more on Ford's current "Kinetic" design philosophy, and not taking styling cues from the old Capri.

I could not tell that would be a Capri if you took the badges away from it.

Hence to me it is more of a "current corporate image" coupe than a true evolution to the Capri.

It is like BMW relaunching the Mini, but making it look like a Yaris.
