About time!!!!! the capri was fab....i had a 2.8 injection...great fun especially in the wet!!!! lets not forget the probe and cougar were american cars(yuk) so lets hope the new capri is designed by brits/or/europeans(think focus/mondeo/s-max etc) it will be a great car altho i think it will be front wheel drive(shame)but one thinks they(fords) have missed the boat....we will see!!!!!

How much would it cost to move the steering wheel in the Mustang and put the 3.0 V6 Mondeo/XF engine in and maybe a proper back axle? They could even use the TDV6 and TDV8 Jaguar/Land Rover diesels. All nicely Euro compliant and developed. And get Mike Cross to make it ride and handle before he moves to Bombay!
Hmm, the Roush Mustang handles rather well, thank you very much and let's be fair, it's not like the Capri ever did. The 2014 Mustang will have an IRS though but the fact remains that a Mustang will never be the basis for a Scirocco competitor in the UK and certainly not with the way the VEL is going. Ford want sales in the fwd coupe sector.

No, I agree it's far better to leave it in the past with the Cortina badge because Capri will mean sod all to the modern yoof. I know it's hard to think of a name but that's no excuse to bdise a legendary nameplate for something as weak as a fwd coupe. Perhaps a simple RS100/200/300 plate would suffice or maybe the Ford Bandwagon.
Sorry LuS1fer, but the long list of trick and expensive sounding suspension mods to your car rather disprove your own argument here ! I know Capris didnt handle in a nice safe 21st century way but then 40 years ago when they were just scaled down Mustangs it worked, why not today? A few years ago in the US it was unfeasable that people would want Mustangs ,Camaros or Challengers today they,re queuing up to go on waiting lists.

vauxhall/opel MAKE ANOTHER MANTA GT/E!!!!! now! lol

ford take advise and DO NOT MAKE IT LOOKING LIKE THAT!(as seen on that mag feature link)

what a dreadful cheaply made heap of cougar mk2 ....futuristic muscle cars dont work, you had it right with the latest mustang, just make a smaller version of that with the power bulge and twin headlights!!!!! im seriously going ot wait for this now, i was gunna blow my cash on another bmw but have always been a fan of old school fords and HUGE fan of OPEL MANTA's, nothing any good anymore, and not enough rwd cars out there to choose from hence most people having bmws.

sorry about the caps but i seriouly hope they make a good RWD new capri, not some focus based dreadful cheap looking half rep half audi TT thing.
make it RWD and u will be onto a winner, it will give the ford name a boost again, in britain i think it needs it anyway with its coupe side of things.

Yes, that's why I said Roush Mustang. wink The "expensive" suspension mods actually cost about £1000 over here (cheaper if you import it yourself) but that cost is offset by the fact you can buy a Mustang GT for far less than any sort of equivalent. The Mustang is a big car though (although, surprisingly, smaller than the new Mondeo)but simply isn't what Ford want in the UK market even if it is more economical than a Focus ST.

Incidentally the Probe and Cougar were essentially Mazdas underneath so why not a Capri RX8??? Oh yes, the 16mpg...
Still scope for a Capri MX5 Coupe though....

Another thought...range-topper with 4wd and a V6 (3.2I-6?!? scratchchin), based off the Focus platform and with a nice little RS badge in the corner...not as good as a 'proper' Capri but better than anything else they're likely to come up with...

Ford own Mazda, therefore there's a pretty great platform just waiting around:

It's on my 'must own before I die' list!

Do you think Vauxhall/Opel will respond with a new Manta!???

Now there's something I'd love to see. I still miss my GTE coupe!

I would rather it would be a retrofied remake of the original rather than a new scirroco type car.

Umm sorry to crimp off this entire thread, but isn't Autobild the sister mag of Auto Express? Ergo, isn't this entire discussion as pointless, misguided and fantastical as every one of Auto Express's front page 'scoops' (ie inventions) over the past 10 years? Exactly. Let's move on.

I agree with what the man said about the RX8 platform. Make it take styling references in the way that new Camaro echoes old Camaro. Definitely RWD - can't be that much more expensive to make. It will require an engine that makes a nice noise. 24 valve V6 to top the range. I like what Twin Turbo has done. Follow the Mk1 with hockey stick and maybe some Cologne arches etc. Might as well have a nice big tailgate and 2+2 configuration. Sell like hot cakes! I'll have a blue and white one please.

Any capri replacment is bound to be FWD, the odd's of rear wheel drive are almost non existant
