It similar situation with the GTR - as stunning as the GTR is it's a little too playstation for me.
Bit of a easy cliche IMO, just because it is Japanese with lots of tech and features heavily in GT5.
Porsche and Ferrari Audi, and BMW have similar technology with TC, DSG, 4WD and clever diff, yet manage to avoid such stigma for some reason.

Every review I have read says that the GTR isn't actually like that, and even Clarkson went out of his way last weekend to make the point that it isn't.
I'm not saying electronics are a bad thing - if you want to go from A-B as fast as possible then electronics are essential. For me, i'm not interested in this and prefer to be more directly in control in something perhaps not as refined. Similary I've no interest in a porsche, ferrari, audi, bmw or subaru. To be honest, I'd probably like to go for something like an atom or lotus 211.

when the specs for the GTR were released everybody basically refused to believe a 1700-1800 kgs car with not special power to weight ration (270 ish) could beat a 911 GT2 to 60. Hell, it's quicker than a porsche carrera gt. The recent top gear track test just only goes to illustrate the difference - a lap of 1:19 (if true) is simply incredible. The realistic differentiator is going to be the electronics and you can't say that you are not going to notice that.

I spent some time with Nissan who are one of our suppliers and the sales guy I knew admitted that the biggest competition at the show was the Lotus. But, like me, he couldn't understand how people are compairing the 2 as he thought they were aimed at 2 totally different markets.

The Nissan shouts "LOOK AT ME!" whilst the Lotus says "Hop in Baby I'm gonna give you the ride of your life"....ones a Police Horse all size and power the others the Mustang sleek, compact but by god it'll be a blast riding it!..........IMHO smile

it's the price that makes them competitors!

I am so pleased I'm at the front of the queue. L100ny when do I get to spec it?

Simon
Hi Simon,

Would you be after one of the first 200 with all the options ticked or to spec one as you wish?

Loonster.
Will you be at the show on Sat? Does that mean my place in the queue is affected by the options and not when I put the deposit down? That doesn't seem very fair.

Simon
Hi Simon,

Giles will be at the show on Sat from 09:00 to 15:30, your place is not affected by the options etc and you are still in line for one of the first cars. However, we will require the extra deposit asap to guarantee this.

You may want to pm me or speak to Giles on Sat?

I'll speak to Giles tomorrow, and take my chequebook. I thought I was the first order Castle had taken.

Sorry to interject here - But does this mean then that you don't have to take one of the fully specced 200 but can spec your your own and not drop down the list?

I have to say I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about either taking someone's spec'd car or speccing the car the way I want it but waiting even longer.

Cheers all

Great looking car and light weight too

Concerns? Seems to have the lower compression ES350 engine wonder why the IS350 engine at +25Hp wasn't used.

Does it generate downforce and whats the Cd? Knowing what a great job Lotus did with this on the GTR I'm sure it will be good...

Is a 30 month program really long enough to test properly and iron out all the glithes? I guess time will tell...

I spoke to Giles at the show and it is all fine. I'm free to spec it and hold my place.

Gents, I am clearly in the minority here but...I don't really like the looks, especially the horrible greenish colour, I dont't like the front lights, I think it looks like a distorted exige/elise and that the shape does not "flow"...the interior not only looks cheap but it is also unimaginative. I am not impressed with 280bhp out of 3,500 cc and with £45,000 I can get my hands on a used 997...which pretty much sums it up. Just my 2 pence...(or cents, since I am in Greece).

I wasn't keen on the looks but it's a grower and I think it will look good on the road.

It's the name I keep coming back to.......it's a crap name. Sounds like Lotus we or as someone has already remarked, a certain margarine spread. I can't believe they have been that unimaginative in plonking this name on it.

The other thing it constantly reminds me of is Vic eeves going "Irano" and "Ivavu" on Shooting Stars.

Still, it should rise above that even if it's as much a 2+2 as a McLaren F1 with a wooden shelf behind the driver.

I am convinced I saw one of these on the road. I was on the A11, passing Wymondham (there's even a "Lotus Cars" signpost at the junction) last week when this black "thing" joined the Dual Carriageway. It didn't hang around for long - too quick for my camera phone.

My first thought was "Elise/Exige on steroids" - bigger, meaner. Then thought it might be a Europa, but when I opened this month's TG magazine, I recognised what I'd seen.

It. Looked. Good.

Can't imagine anyone sitting in the back will have any forward vision with those wide high backed front seats, also minimal sized rear side window area that's not going to be too pleasant an experience sitting in the back assuming there is sufficient space to begin with.Rather like sitting in the back of a small 4 seat aircraft, you see nothing.

The interior has some nice details but I don't like how the screen is done, looks a bit clumsy. The exterior looks like a lot of cars coming out of Japan at the moment but with an Elise front and rear grafted on.

Sat in the back of one today; whilst it was one of the development cars without the final rear seat configuration, the amount of front legroom enabled us to sit someone in the front in comfort and me behind them. Headroom was a bit tight, but as it stood, certainly no worse than a 996. Nice driving position too.

Please be aware that the Evora at the Garden Party is a pre-production test vehicle, hence things like the perspex headlamp covers etc.

This is not, and I repeat not, production quality.
