"Current law only punishes people for driving an uninsured vehicle".

I had an old X1/9 parked up uninsured 20ft from the road, but technically still on her majesty's highway. The battery was flat and the brakes seized, following a plea of guilty (advised by two seperate lawyers), I received an IN10, 5pts and a small fine+costs. Driving in my case was not a prerequisite for punishment.

The actual law says something along the lines of "use the vehicle", but "use" can be interpreted as "has the use of" as well as "using" (apparently).
I don't get it. Are you telling only half the story or something? Did you upset a cop?

Third party insurance should be included in the price of fuel.
Genius!
Sadly, that is the precise reason why it will never be adopted. It solves all problems instantly, therefore won't employ enough civil servants nor take up enough time.

Fire, theft and comp all become optional extras, but everyone who uses the roads would be protected.

I do imagine that the number of scam crashes would go through the roof though.

this isnt right.

i have my ltous in the garage not being driven after the insurance ran out to carry out work to it. its only off the road for 2 months so its not worth getting it sorn. this would mean i would be liable for a fine and my car taken away.

this is another poorly thort out government action.
Nearly, quite nearly; as badly thought out as you spelling buddy! Fill out the SORN. If the LOTUS (I can't believe you own one honestly if you can't spell the name correctly (*TIP* Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious (nice little acronym)) is off the road, I doubt it will be for ONLY 2 months if it’s a home fix. Yes its paperwork, but by pulling ones finger out, you will help the government fail miserably; and they won’t be able to screw you for money because of it!

Oh and its clearly another fantastic idea by our glorious leaders!!!

The postscript to all of this, of course, is that very soon HMG will start levying a charge for SORN........

I wonder how it works for day insurance?

I was thinking of buying a trackday Impreza and day insuring it when driving to events.

I suppose that blows my plan out of the water!

gr8 m8. I can drive me corsa ow i like coz the surance is in the petrol innit. av a crash an still covered. no xtra 2 pay. gr8.

I hope you can see the flaw with that idea. No incentive to drive carefully.

Also what about the thousands (if not more) of unregistered vehicles. Especially the bought for cash few hundred quid scensoredt boxes. Who exactly do they send the letter to in that case !

If its taxed it's taxed for 6/12 months. Mark wants to keep it that way and only insure it on a day to day basis to drive it to trackdays.

The new rules state that he has to have insurance while the vehicle is taxed or he will get fined. it matters not that the car is in a garage and not being driven.

As already stated, another law to screw the law abiding and make no difference to the scrotes.

HOW much longer do we have to keep taking these dreamt up overnight ideas by this bunch of nanny state idiots - you JUST know some honest person's car is going to get caught up in this and get crushed.

Thankfully, not too long.
Within 18 months max Nu Labur will be history.
Not to say the Tories will be any better (can't be any worse)

BUT I just sooooooooo want to give this shower of politically correct morons such a bloody nose, I can hardly wait.

is the 325 insured? because you can only drive the 325 on the 306's insurance if the 325 has some sort of insurance as i understand it?

Or if you're not the owner of the 325.

2 cars = 2 policies. Legally.

Also are you the owner of both cars because the small print says "vehicle not owned by you can be driven third party".

If you own both this is not a "clever" dodge. You are driving an uninsured car illegally.

The people that drive uninsured cars all the time can just declare the car sorn. Fake a dogey tax disc in the window for when they park up(would take about 5 minutes on a computer) They still are only running the same risk as before, ANPR or a random tug is the only thing that will get them.

Another dumb idea, the government know that the dogey people will just become 'more dogey' and avoid it another way, and they can make more money in fines out of the law abidding people who have made a simple mistake(as in got the car taxed on private property but the insurance is lapsed, i.e when you sell a car/transfer insurance to a new one).

I'm going to take a guess.

You were parked on the (wide) verge, 20ft away from the tarmac? If so, then it's technically still "on the road" and therefore needs taxing. Can't understand the IN10 though, as currently it's not an offence to leave an uninsured car parked up on the road? Or have I misunderstood the point of the new legislation?
