well, being on Ananova (is that PA or AP?) at least the mainstream media will all get the story wired to them.. cheaper than making our own press release..

If the Government were to make a habit of basing government policy on the content of newspaper articles, most of them would be out of office before they could say “Cash for Questions”.

I've taken the liberty of drawing the PA & MCN articles to the attention of a number of newspapers..

Hopefully the amount of press this gets should snowball in the next couple of days..

Just had a response from DEFRA about Meacher's letter. Its quite long so I won't type it all in but it basically says that the letter was misunderstood, its just loony speeders that he's worried about and all bikers are gorgeous, well maybe not that last bit, but you get the picture.

My response is as follows:

Dear Lucy,

Thanks for your response to my e-mail, but the standard back-pedal isn't going to cut-it. Mr Meacher is quite clear in his letter to Chief Constables, there is no room for misunderstanding. He refers to Motorcyclists as a growing problem, not only in National Parks but elsewhere as well, as if they were some kind of disease that needs to be eradicated. His letter specifically states that he looked into the possibility of banning certain types of vehicles from certain roads but found it to be impractical.

If it is speeding and dangerous driving that concerns him why pick on just motorcycles? Car drivers are guilty of this too!

I'm afraid Mr Meacher's letter was quite clear in its intention and it beggars belief that he could even dream of formulating this kind of policy after reading a couple of newspaper articles which are well-known for being biased, sensationalist and one-sided.

This whole business leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

(The bit about cars was to illustrate a point, I don't want them to persecute drivers too!)

Yeah, I got a reply from some Lucy Thomas about it. Thanking me for my letter etc etc, and Mr Meacher is a nice bloke really, and he loves motorbikes. Well, not quite, but you get the point!

I received this letter today from Andrew Lansley CBE MP, he has written to Michael Meacher this is the letter he wrote:

I have been contacted by a number of my constituents regarding a letter that you reportedly wrote to Chief Police Officers with responsibility for National Parks and Arears of Outstanding Natural Beauty with regards to the danger and damage caused by motorcycles in these areas.

I would appreciate it if you could tell me why you wrote to these authorities in relation to motorcycles instead of making your concerns about this known in the open and on what evidence of damage or danger was your letter based? Also could you tell me why you raised the treat of ban on motoercycles in these ares in your letter, only to say it could not be justified?

I hope you will be able to clarify your position on this subject which is causing concern to a number of my constituents.

Lets see what te Old Duffer comes back with.

Got a reply from my MP yesterday, cannot believe that as a member of the opposition he agrees with the tw*t
I think I'll have to write again, this time putting it in plainer England for him. Along the lines that if 70% of the crime were allegedly committed by a particular group then would he also insist and agree that 70% of the resources be used at the whim of one man regardless for due process and statute?
Come the day of reckoning, one less vote for him then.
