It's not the age of the engine, it's the design of the lump. Though lots of reasons come to mind, the truck-derived engine is one of the reasons that the Viper never got out of the fast but crude category. And that engine in a less-crude car would be an even greater dichotomy. Sports cars, super or otherwise, need to rev, with low rotating mass and a high redline. And they need to make a sound that is as thrilling as the car is fast. The Viper engine, regardless of vintage, has never been able to fulfill any of these needs.
That said, I wish these folks from Spain all the best. It's a very attractive design, touches all the requisite spots on the periodic table and likely will have an exciting power per ton coefficient. I hope they make it. Horatio proved it could be done. Of course, he's nearly a god.
