Spanish Flyer On The Way

Viper-powered supercar arriving next month

An all-new Viper-powered supercar announced last year by Spanish outfit GTA Motor has completed development trials and will be officially launched in April.

That’s the latest word from the factory in Spain, which bullishly claims it expects to build 99 examples of the car in spite of the credit crunch. Prices, along with the name, are being saved up for the launch. Just don’t expect it to be cheap!

According to a factory press release, track-testing shows the GTA concept will clock 0-100kmh in under 3secs, and has a top speed of over 350kmh. The V10 engine is mounted longitudinally in a Kevlar, carbon and titanium chassis and pumps out 780hp and 920NM of torque through a seven-speed sequential gearbox – although an auto version will also be optional.

The GTA Concept double wishbone suspension at both ends, adjustable shocks and Pirelli Pzero-shod bespoke wheels (19ins at the front, 20ins at the rear). AP Racing carbon ceramic brakes are fitted, and the car’s glass panoramic roof is said to give an open-air feeling while being ‘sporty and elegant’. The roof apparently has a patented system of interior lighting and liquid crystal shading.

Prior to its launch, GTA Motor has revealed a handful of ‘teaser’ shots of its car undergoing testing. According to project manager Domingo Ochoa the three-year development program has resulted in a car that GTA believes ‘will set a precedent in the international automobile scene’. Olé!

Definitely Ascari-esque... But I like the look of it and the roof is interesting!

Didn't VW do a W12 concept car, which broke some endurance speed records at Nardo sometime ago, with a similar looking glass roof? Now, that was a nice looking car!

I wonder what the success ratio is for new sports cars.

How many dismal failures are there for every Pagani, Ariel or Noble?

It is utterly unbeleiveable the amount of new super duper sports cars that are getting 'launched'.

As a young student I had dreams of starting a low volume saports car company, just like everyone else it seems. I even if you only produce one or two cars its still an achievement once you dont bankupt yourself in the process.

The ratio must be pretty bad but, you gotta believe your gonna make it.

Yup, everyone thought the Ascari looked nice, then didn't buy one.

surely if you produce one or two cars, then you will go backrupt.

you have to have a certain break even figure, and then exceed that figure - having a waiting list with people prepared to put down deposits is a sure fire way of knowing a company is kicking arse.

Either that or make a car with no financial pressure - ie. I want to make one car for me, a true one off, then if someone else likes it and wants one you can come to an arrangement.

So, the front from an F430, the side profile of the VW W12 Nardo, and the taillights off a TT, with a Viper engine.

Crikey, the Let's Build a Supercar disease really is spreading like wildfire now. Italy on Tuesday and now Spain. Where will it hit tomorrow?
