To enlighten you all.
RS Turbo Series 2 can reach a top speed of around 127mph.

Based on 7.9 psi of turbo boost.

Our RS Turbos were modified with boost levels peaking above 26psi and falling back to 19/22psi continual.

With the modifications we made the rev counter neddle clashed with the mph needle on the dash board as we had them running so fast. Sometimes reaching over potentially 12,000 rpm under full load

The Mechanical Fuel Injection System on the RST allowed the engine to be remapped after lowering the engine compression to allow for more turbo boost.

The timing was remapped between 12 degrees before top dead Centre and 18 degree BTDC depending on the fuel mixture and injector capabilities.

We had our engine cooling fans set to always on via a modification switch on the dash board.

Further to the we had an in line adjustable dash control boost adapter which would allow you to open up the waste gate actuator to the maximum level whilst having the pedal to the floor.

Before Mark was tragically taken, both me and him had a unit with a boy racer modification garage in where we spent most of our time 24/7.

I always think about the fact that when the accident happened Mark Hughes was a passenger in the vehicle. He was the best driver I have ever known.

John Henderson’s RST had a 2.0L Zetec engine block modification and was a prototype in the modification circuit, both John and Mark knew how to drive.

Paul Cornes who was in the other car also died on the same road 10 years later on the oposite side, unbelievable, no one knows how it happened.

Reflecting on some comments above, the brakes in the RST 2 were not always reliable, however when you know your car it would take a serious change in dynamics from any vehicles in front to result in a crash like this one.

There was a taxi driver in the middle lane and the red car infront pulled out with no warning, which made the white RST hit the barrier and lose control burst through a fence on the side of the motorway, overturn and land.

Paul Corns told me Mark was already dead as the was a wooden post which had burst through the floor of the vehicle and impaled him.

Paul tried to pull Mark and John out of the vehicle but it was already too late as the fuel lines had ruptured, the engine under load was glowing red hot and ignited the petrol which caused the car to burst into flames.

I remember at the crash site on my knees picking up with Uganda and fingers my soul mate Marks buttons from his jeans which were charred and bloody:

Words can not explain, if I could only tell you all the full story

My heart goes out to you.
I lost my dear brother Laurence 27.6.80
Motorcycle accident with car turning right and failed to see him.
You learn to live with it and the pain and heartache are sometimes immeasurably hard to deal with.
It was doubly hard for my parents too to have to bury their son.
Life can be tough
Try to remember all the best times you had and be proud you were there to enjoy them.

Well John Henderson is my big brother! And there's no mention that he was ran off the road! And the he and his pal got burned alive yes the other driver was his friend but when are people going to learn to no race like this? Now he has got 2 sons who went through years of trauma counseling and a daughter who he never knew existed ! ( his girlfriend only found out she was pregnant just after he died!
