What utter cobblers.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, this is the same SMMT that has colluded over the past God knows how many years to keep new car prices in the UK artificially high.

Additionally, this is the same SMMT that is seemingly blind to the fact that after successful awareness campaigns, people are crossing the Channel in droves to purchase the same car as they would buy in a showroom, only considerably cheaper. What only sickens them is the fact that under EU ruling, a European wide warranty must be honoured in all member countries.

Unsurprisingly, they continue to harp on about "stifling competition". Yet in a perverse way, their members in keeping prices set artificially high, are advocating it. Unfortunately, to fellow European competitors !

Sadly, in a modern competition based economy it's survival of the fittest. And the sooner the SMMT starts moving away from this idealogical Olde English nirvana where you could take your car down to the local garage for a service, the better. Why, we'll be able to go to work leaving our front doors open next !

Look at the high street versus out of town shopping centres. Characterless and mundane yes, but free parking, convenient and you don't get wet walking between shops.

The SMMT has to abondon these paradigms if it is to gain any respect from customers. But with the EU calling the shots, is it only a matter of time ?

Hear, hear !

I'm getting mightily p****d off with people like the SMMT and other trade bodies, trade unions, multi-nationals etc. looking after their own or their own members' interests (which is fair enough in itself) and then trying to kid me that they are only doing it because they have MY best interests at heart.

Do they think I'm a brainless idiot who got off the banana boat yesterday? - patronising wipers of other people's bottoms
