£27m is a hell of a lot of money to pay for not very much. It's going to take a very long time to earn that back.

Anyway I'm sure the new owners have looked at a business plan longer and harder than the 1 minute I have.

I agree, seems the biritsh only do well in building houses, office spaces or restaurants and fried chicken shops. Manufacturing in the UK is dead.

Great news joining the likes of Caterham, Radical, Westfield, Ultima etc... if its one thing the British car insustry knows is small volume niche markets!

Whatever happened to TVR anyway, is there still a company out there with the name?

I don't agree with that. The most productive car plant in Europe is in the UK.

Samll volume quality engineered products: it's what we do best. Keep it that way and it's a definite winner.

It's when we try to ramp up production it all goes t*ts up.

Both of you grow up, get better informed or move country. The UK is the 6th largest manufacturing country in the world....fact. It is twits like you and Clarkson who continue with these myths. Get out there and support our industries.

When you say 6th largest manufacturing country in the world, do you mean of cars? Genuine question. I haven't looked on google but thought you'd be able to answer that for me... rolleyes

That's the spirit, because they are no huge incredibly successful multi-national British businesses...
There are many multi-national successful British businesses, but if you had to wager a low volume British based car manafacturer (or large volume for that matter) staying in business, you'd be a fool. Yes there are a few, but for everyone that is clinging on, many more have gone bust.

Who honestly here would put their own money on Spyker being around in 12 months? Not me......

That does put a 'slightly' different angle on the story. Sort of information that would have made the article more about a rich Russian relocating a small sports car manufacturer to another county.

Putting it like that though would have brought on a bout of post traumatic stress disorder for the TVR guys.

Fair point. But you can also see the other guys point, TVR, most of the British motor companies of the 70s & 80s, all gone t*ts up. I am with you, I am in the positive camp and reckon it'll be a huge success, but I can't help having (2%) doubts due to whats gone before IMHO...

We wont have to worry about CCP going bust any time soon.

But £27 Million for a product that does not sell very well at all.

Dont get me wrong i love alot of what spyker has to offer but 27 million is very excessive.

But good luck to them anyway, perhaps they can turn this low sales volume around.

So Spyker forks out £248m for Saab, then sells off "The Spyker car" for £27m, return of a little over 10% of capital invested in Saab.

So we can expect to see great things from Saab now?, is this a change of strategy or the banks just looking for their money back?
