Corroded chassis members repair questions
Discussion
Two trips and 450 odd miles to call in to APM and RT Racing yesterday and today, to keep the guys updated (and to drop off some shiny bits to RT). As ever thank you to Andy and Richard for their time, storage space and coffee!
Chassis coming along nicely, still strange seeing it with sections chopped out, but there''s some shiny new metal on there too.....v exciting!!! Interestingly, but unsurprisingly, the box sections, whilst holed were very clean on the inside, but the 2 year old outriggers could have been part of a North Sea oil rig with the amount of rust on the inside.
They also had a Chimp with a headlight arrangement I have been thinking of for mine too, only difference to my thinking was to mask over the old indicator aperture as I'd like to accentuate the sill line (and I don't drive hard enough to need the extra brake cooling )

Relieved for you but very surprised, as this is what concerns me most about chassis corrosion - it's like an iceberg, it's not what you can see that you have to worry about.
It is a little bit of a contradiction I admit, but having seen in them and have a section of the worst area in the boot, its surprisingly rust free. I guess, maybe, the waxoyl, was kinda like the boy with his thumb in the dam holding back the flood.Ok well latest update and pics. Basically the whole front end of the chassis from box sections up and forward of the dashboard mounts has or is being replaced, no great surprise in the end, and at least its less of a fragmented jigsaw of old and new metal at the end of the day and soon to be with some real outriggers.
Love the first pic as it shows how the huge pile of "dead" metal that's been cut out!
Anyone with many years worth of waxoyl on their Cerbs, strip it back and check what lies beneath....

Nothing has come through yet, although to be honest I received a PH email last week which was sent the week before. I changed email clients a fortnight ago as I couldn't send anything, but I've been getting emails from recruitment agencies and my invoice payments alright/on time so I'm not sure what's up
ahhh...when I tried to reply to an advert yesterday I got the "somethings not right" error page, so may be PH mail server problem.Feel free to drop me a line - dj_stevec@yahoo.com

Looks stunning!
Let me know when you need an extra pair of hands - hopefully Tanguero will be there to direct again!
If Peters not around, I doubt it'll go back on!Let me know when you need an extra pair of hands - hopefully Tanguero will be there to direct again!
As a 2nd choice colour, I
Shes about 98% waxoyl free now too, some bits are absolutely welded on, but not gonna keep scraping and scraping and scraping in case I damage the fibreglass.

After longer than I care to remember, and £'s I dont want to....I picked up the chassis from RT on Friday, and thanks to Tanguero and UKKID35 (with Mother C catering services), Saturday was another big day in the life of the refurb my cerb.
The way these guys apply knowledge and experience is way beyond my capabilities and I cannot thank them enough....enjoy your drinks guys!
As you can see from Pauls videos here, The Sequel, the body went on (TWICE!) absolutely lovely, dropped on, dropped in (almost dropped on Paul at one point too!), without any fuss at all.
As Peter hadn't had chance to use his king size pry bar, we decided to take it off again so he could get his money's worth....well....in reality RT had added an angle bracket to strengthen the top arm of the rear ARB, which wasnt there in pics of the strip down, so as the body was lowered to its final position, they fouled against the inner rear wheel arches. So something for anyone else doing to NOT add or make sure arent added for them. So we had to chop them out from the lovely lime-yellow chassis, but had to be done and thankfully in a place that isnt easily visible and hopefully protected again well enough, but something I'll keep an eye.
So, now the rebuild starts in earnest....little bit of fettling to bolt holes to come, but with a bit of luck, the respray will happening sooner than thought
Watch this space.....
Yes it really is that bright!!! And I love it!

Thought it might be time to update.....things have been slow since the body went back on....virtue of an empty bank account and worsening knees!
Decided to get the car to someone who knows what they're doing and who would get the job done quicker than my knees will allow....so she's down at APM (one or two of you may have seen her there apparently!). Next stage begins today with the car being moved to the paintshop for colour change respray, headlight conversion and a few other bits'n'pieces. Lots of shiny bits in boxes in Andy's workshop and an even bigger amount to come....but fingers crossed be back on the road for 2,000 miles of careful engine running in around Easter.
and after 2 years in various boxes, the engine comes together....

Can't wait to see it on the road again, would be great to go up to Chatsworth in a convoy.
Chatsworth? Bit further away this year isnt it?? April 13 would be a pretty tight deadline....but hoping for a road return around Easter....then some gentle running in...which will be great and painful at the same time! This turned up on Saturday.....just a shame most of it will hidden.

OOOH! - What is it? A splitter? tell me more.
Yep 'tis a splitter. It does a pretty similar job to the angled aluminium one by all accounts....but looks nicer IMHO. Sourced from the Carbon Cerbie website guys...looks superb and a bloody good fit right off the bat too.Gassing Station | Cerbera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
