Got the starter out, sqeezed it out i should say, just had to remove the nearest two induction pipes.

The starter gear had become permanently engaged, because the oilite bush in the reduction gear housing had come out, which prevented the gear returning. Unusual i thought, anyway replacement unit in and working just fine
