4.5 vs 4.2 Cerbera
Discussion
4.2 Pros:
Air box design - the 4.5 airboxes are a POS, and some owners have found to their cost that when the fittings fall apart it means an engine rebuild, that is inexcusable. To my horror I recently found one of the fittings rattling around inside one of the air filter tubes completely by chance, my heart missed a beat. The 4.2 airboxes look much better (but I could be mistaken).
Intake manifold design - I'm only guessing that having the injectors upstream of the butterflies is not a great idea as on the 4.5, the 4.2 has them downstream. Tell me I'm wrong.
Value - 4.2 cars have depreciated more than 4.5 cars, and therefore represent much better value. They also seem much more plentiful and therefore it's easier to secure a good example.
I can't think of any other reasons why someone would prefer a 4.2 to a 4.5.

Have never personally seen an engine failure because of it, only heard the "stories", but the very possibility of it, plus I've found various parts floating around in there over the years is a worry that shouldn't exist. Those airboxes look like they have been constructed by a blind monkey.

The earlier 4.2s came with the original 'clatter' cam design which I believe the 4.5 missed out on? Would also be interesting to see if a clatter cam 4.2 (with the 4.2 intakes) makes more power when converted to a 4.7/4.8 compared to a converted 4.5?Gassing Station | Cerbera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
