I'm sure it doesn't, but wanted to ask just in case - Will the device get any charge from the ECU? I.e will it charge whilst connected? I'm trying to work out how to fit a permanent screen.....

I've been thinking about how to solve the problem of being able to charge the android device at the same time as using the USB port in host mode. It's not possible without lots of hackerydickery..!

But I did come across a Qi Wireless Car Charger. That's one of the more expensive ones, but there are cheaper options. I'll probably test this in the next few days to see if it's possible to wireless charge and use the USB port in host mode at the same time. If it is it would be great.
I'm just mounting my phone on the dash.
It's really as simple as, download the app, mount your phone on the dash and plug it in smile

So, all I do is, hop in the car, mount the phone, run the app and start the engine.
All you need is a cable.
It's that simple!

It's really fine, I've been posting far to frequently on this thread, and sometimes there's too much information bundled together smile

I'm looking forward to getting it released as well. It's been really handy, before you even start the car or when you're stuck in traffic, you have every piece of engine sensor data available in realtime.

Hi Sandy,
Yes, more or less.
You need a USB host enabled android device, like a samsung galaxy S3, S4 or S5 and the cables detailed above. If your car is a later model with a three pin ecu connector then you also need another special three pin to 9pin RS232 cable. I'm not sure if you can still buy them anymore, but here's a thread with details on how to make one for yourself.

I have a Galaxy S5, the cable I currently use from ECU to laptop so I think all I need is the cable to convert the USB to micro USB:

What is the name of the app in the play store so I can download it?

yes, if you have never connected your car up to the original diagnostic software then you will need all three cables.
But if you have then you only need one.

Yes, that’s it in a nutshell Tim.

The app iS not on the App Store just yet. I’m still finishing off a few bits and pieces. It won’t be too long until I get it released.

When it is released could list the devices that it is comparable with?

I'm looking to get a cheap android phone / tablet from fleabay to run it
Can do. It should be ok as long as the device has USB host capabilities. Best to wait until I confirm it works on a certian deveice before you buy it though?

Hi Aide,
Is this going to be compatible with the New Samsung galaxy s tab 8.4?
Did you have any joy solving the charging problem? In my ignorance of how this works but could a Bluetooth adaptor be used to free up USB port?
Looking forward to it's release looks great.

Cheers. If you want another tester before you get it in the app store just send me a link to the apk file. smile As well as my S5 I also have a Nexus 7, a galaxy s3, a galaxy s2 and an asus eee pad if you want me to check more devices.

I need to reconnect the diags tomorrow to check the temps the fans kick in at.

looks fantastic.

have to settled on a working bluetooth adapter that works reliably.

My phon eis an old desire but the bluetooth to the torque app I use in my cars is rock solid so should be possible with the right bluetooth adapter
