You need to adopt a TVR philosophy Aide, ship it now and let your customers test it. wink
:-) hopefully should get lots of feedback from everyone when it does go live so that I can tweak it here and there.

Sorry, if that was directed at me I don't use a bluetooth adapter with the MBE. I use a bluetooth OBD adapter for a mobile phone app called torque which does a similar job with most other car types

Hi Aide,
Is this going to be compatible with the New Samsung galaxy s tab 8.4?
Did you have any joy solving the charging problem? In my ignorance of how this works but could a Bluetooth adaptor be used to free up USB port?
Looking forward to it's release looks great.
Glenn
It should be ok with the larger devices. The main thing is it needs to have usb host capabilities.

I have a 100m Bluetooth RS232 dongle, I got it last year, I just need to add Bluetooth logic to comms layer of the app.

A wireless charger arrived today so I'll test and see if we can wirelessly charge and use the USB port in host mode.

looks fantastic.

have to settled on a working bluetooth adapter that works reliably.

My phon eis an old desire but the bluetooth to the torque app I use in my cars is rock solid so should be possible with the right bluetooth adapter
Yes, just need a decent Bluetooth adaptor permanently wired in and a few changes to the app to cater for usb and/or Bluetooth.
But I'd hang on buying any bluetooth stuff for a bit though until I can confirm a Bluetooth version of the app will be released.

Re Wireless Charging and using the USB port in host mode.

I've just tested it and, on my S3, they can't both operate at the same time...

Which is a bit of a bummer as I drove to Bournemouth from London on Sunday and the battery in the phone didn't last the whole journey.

However, the very nice gentleman thefrog over on the Three Pin MBE ECU Cable How To thread emailed me with a solution.

He found a Micro USB to RS232 DB9 Serial Adapter Cable for Android with USB Charging . Which is exactly what is needed. Top man thumbup

I'll shop around for the least expensive one and test it this week smile

The new cable was waiting for me when I arrived home from work today smile

It actually is perfect. It allows you to connect an android device to a serial device (ie S3 to the ECU) while, at the same time, lets you charge the android device. Which really really is just what is needed.

It's actually pretty bleeding edge, the chipset was released last year and the cable is, as far as I can tell, the only one available.

So, being able to keep the phone charged while powering the USB to RS232 cable for ECU communication is 100% possible.

But to be able to do this right now I'd need to write/extend the serial communication library of the App. Which isn't difficult, just time consuming..

So, I think I'll do a release first and look at extending communication capabilities shortly after..

For anyone (read nerd) that's interested in the chipest that aims to solve the problem of serial communication and device simultaneous charging, look at the "Launch: FT312D - USB Host Chip" section of the www.ftdichip.com

Gets my vote! Can't wait to test it. I have a "y" usb charging lead that I'm hoping will work to power the device and the serial port, but unable to test it yet......

Aide, will you be sharing the apk as well as putting it on the play store? I've got a chi-pad that doesn't have play on?

One of the things the original diagnostic software lacked was the ability to track and display the min/max values it had recorded for a particular value.. Like water temperature.

Many times I've been stuck in traffic trying to keep an eye on the water temprature. At the same time though I always found myself thinking that I might have missed it actually being higher while I wasn't paying attention...

So, added the ability to display and track min/max values the app has seen. The values are persisted so the app will remember min/max values, for each sensor it allows you to monitor, until you manually reset them.

The min/max values are shown on the dial widgets as green and red triangles:

Best (hic!) wishes

That's a great addition, however...

Having worked with software developers, I know they like to delay release and keep adding whistles and bells.

In the nicest possible way, would you just release the bloody thing and stop teasing. You can add additional features later. This is after all how many software companies survive wink

Hello,

Point taken on the feature creep issue and I'll be releasing as soon as possible, please bear in mind that I'm only trying to make the first cut as complete as I can.

I did finish one last feature. Which is the ability to save the layout of all your screens. It will be helpful if you get a new android device or want to use the same layout on different devices. If you just want to share your layout with someone else it will also be most useful (i.e. via email or by posting a link to it on a PH thread for others to use)

That's it. RS-AJP Version 1.0

I'll be working on getting it up on the Play Store..

Looking forward to the release of this. It'll help so many of us detect problems before they get too serious.

Nearly time for me to change to the S5 so I am gonna leave the S3 in the car permanently.

All of the above assumes my car runs when I put it all back together tongue out

Just ordered a cheap Andriod tablet to try this out when it's released in the Play Store, nothing really lost if this does'nt work, but I look forward to trying.
Great work Aide, I just had the feeling you was on a winner when you first showed it me working on your car.

Hi. Just read all through your thread.
I have come over from the T350/Sag forum & have been using the evolli software on an old xp laptop but what you've done is what i'm really looking for. I use a galaxy note3 & would love a bluetooth solution permantly wired to the 3pin.

Assuming you don't leave your car outside anywhere? Not sure about having a mobile phone on display all the time.

Hardly been driven over the last 6 years let alone been left outside anywhere. But with a little luck that will change in few weeks time smile

Was thinking of an out of the way mount for it, something not to obvious but easily visible from the drivers seat. Will think of something if I ever finish tearing bits down.

3 hours last night pressing the bushes from the shocks. Gonna be great fun puttin the new ones in frown

I think my comments on that site went down like a lead balloon.
