Well that's me sold! Will buy it now. Thanks a lot!

ETA: going to have to get another android device because it's saying I have no compatible devices, therefore cannot download it. Got an S4 lined up so should be fine.

Cool - btw Darren (Vee8ight) has been working on a dial layout for the S5.
The S5 has a bigger screen than the S3 it was designed on, so there is more space to add more dials smile
I will incorporate it into the app when it’s been finished.
In the meantime if you pm me I can email you the latest layout Darren has sent me.
I’m getting an S5 soon too, so Darren’s layout will be great!
Bigger screen, more dials? No bigger screen, bigger dials, so us blind people can actually see them, lol

I don’t think you can get it all in one Sandy as you need two separate bits of technology:

A) USB OTG
B) and TTL to RS-233 chip

Which are in the two cables you need.

All the cables you need are on the PlayStore Listing.

And I’m guessing that it’s the three pin part you need – there is a link to buy one and also a how-to for building your own on there as well

HTH
Aide
Thanks again Aide, i just cant get my head round needing 3 different cables to effectively do 1 job!! I am learning, albeit slowly!!

Cheers Sandy
Like Aide said, you need to get from micro usb (phone) to serial RS-232, with the OTG bits for the phone to power the serial converter. It would be possible to make such a lead, but it would cost a lot more for a bespoke lead, than the 2 (3 in the case of later ecu's) leads would ever cost.

If you would like a costing to make such a lead, I could engineer one for you, but I can tell you it's going to be around £100, if not more for such a special lead.

Aide, I've installed the app on a samsung galaxy s2. I presume the lower screen resolution is the reason I'm only seeing parts of the layout. I've managed to delete everything that I can see (I am sure there are a few things left off screen) and add a few items.

Could you include a facility to wipe one/all screens in settings ? Not sure if running additional invisible dials in an issue, but if it saves on resources, would be good to clear them.

Other thoughts, have you considered setting alarms, these phones/tablets can make noises, so might be good to have an alarm on certain conditions/thresholds.

Thanks, app looks great, will test in car as soon as my flat battery is fixed !

Hi Greg

Thanks for the feedback.

Good news that the app works on the S2

I'll add a Wipe and Reset menu option asap.

You know that if you connect your mouse to your phone via your USB OTG cable it makes it easier to customise your layout?

Once you’re happy with your layout you can save it – and then email it to me so I can incorporate it onto every release smile

Best wishes
Aide

I knew, but forgot !!! Now that I've tried it seems the phone doesn't support OTG - edited table above to reflect my experience.

Sorry Greg - the S2 is a bit of a grey area, when I did a search it came up with mixed set of answers saying that it can and can't support OTG... Happy work on a solution with you if you like?

That's fine Aide, I only borrowed it to try out, so will look for a second hand device that's known to work.

Aide, which Nexus 7 version is this ? 1st Gen 2012 or 2nd Gen 2014. There seems to be quite a lot of confusion about with regards OTG support just like the Galaxy Tab 3. I purchased a tab 3 yesterday (in the post), but a 7" one, not 8 or 10. Turns out the 7 doesn't support OTG by the looks of things...

Hi Aide,
I have downloaded on to my Samsung galaxy tab s 8inch, I haven't set up the lead yet but I am puzzled by the screen layouts. I have 3 pages as I scroll left and right but apart from clicking on each gauge and enlarging/moving I can't work out how to resize/fit to screen, comparing the image that has been posted of the nexus I have extra gauges to the left and only fills top half of screen. Are you going to make some instructions on how to use?

Hi Tarmacshredder

The default layout that I've included with the app has been designed on a Samsung Galaxy S3.

When it is run on a device with a bigger screen it *sometimes* doesn't scale properly.

On the 1st generation Nexus 7 it scales the default layout out of the box, but on the Samsung Galaxy S5 (and now on the 8" Samsung Galaxy Tab S) it doesn't. I really don't know why one device scales while others don't, but I will look into it.

The default layout is only a guide, just to show you what you can do with all the dials, gauges and fault code info available. Ultimately I thought everyone would like to have their own custom layout, with tailored information displayed in a way that suits them, that they might like to share with others.

But, I think it is still useful to have some sort of "out of the box" layout too.

Unfortunately, it's really difficult to create a default layout that suits everyone - I don't have access to the potentially 3,000 different android devices that the app is compatible with.

Currently, I'm working on two new menu options, one to clear the layout completely and another to reset it back to default. So at least you have to option of building your own layout from scratch?

I'll create a wiki page with down-loadable links to layouts contributed from others with different android devices.

When I created the default layout I had this in mind for each screen:

The First screen was just a splash screen with the usual suspects

Second was the main screen for general use. Remember that the throttle, lambda and AFR labels on the dials are actually fault code indicators - ie they will go red if there is a fault on them. I just wanted to have all the essential info in one place. (where the size of each was relative to the importance)

Third Screen was for Bumper to Bumper, up hill traffic jams in the summer where all you're really interested in is the water temp and the fans smile

Fourth Screen has ALL the fault codes in one place!

Fifth screen was added to help balance the TP's. it has TP, Adaptive, Throttle Fault, Afr fault, lambda and water, rpm and fan status.

Thanks for downloading the App and if you haven't bought any cables to connect your ecu to the app yet the PlayStore has information on exactly what you need.

HTH

Best wishes
