Hi Dave
Sorry to hear that you're having trouble getting connected....
Do you have the cables I listed on the PlayStore?
If not send me a link to what you have and I'll have a look.
Best wishes

I've got the connector cable but the USB to serial I have at home is about 8-10 years old so it's probably not great. Works ok with the laptop.
I've got modern ones at work, I'll try with one of those first.

Fantastic looking app though.

I can confirm success using the recommended cables on my HTC One M8. Combined with the KeepScreen app to prevent the display auto-off whilst in the app, it sits beautifully on the Cerbera console.

The only difficulty is in using the blue and red corners to drag or delete gauges. It's a large screen and I don't have particularly pudgy fingers, but too often i end up moving or deselecting the gauge.

One question: is there any reason why, though the use of a simple splitter like the one below, I can't also plug in my in-car charger?

USB to Serial cables that use Prolific chipsets work best, so, if you can already connect using the original software (and assuming you have the OTG cable I recommended) then it's the USB to Serial cable you have. I don't have every USB to Serial cable available to me to test against unfortunately!
But if you're still stuck after you try the cables you have at work let me know..

Hi Martin,

I must lookup the KeepScreen app...

The resize and delete blue and red corners are quite tactile I agree. It's far easier to just connect your mouse to the tablet, using the OTG cable, to finely tune your custom layout.

Charging the device and supplying power to the USB to Serial cable simultaneously is tricky. I've posted a solution to this earlier.

Ps thanks for updating the Three Pin ECU How To thread, using an off the shelf RS232 cable as a basis saves time and money and is a great idea smile

Thanks Aide. I had tried to wade through all 21 pages of the thread but hadn't seen the Valarm cable. I have ordered it and hope it works with my M8 smile

From what they say about it, it looks like they've applied the right resistor such that the converver sees the correct TTL level rather than the charger's slightly higher voltage. Sound about right?

The off-the-shelf RS232 cable required a lot of continuity checks and double checks that I'd got it right, but it's in my car and working now. If anyone needs a 3-pin plug, drop me a PM as I have 9 spare (with pins).

Hi Aide,

Great product. Loaded onto my new HUDL 2 (really for the Grandkids.....honest!!), just got to sort out the screen layout/graphical/digital etc.

I bought a 99p OTG cable which is used with what worked on my laptop - a USB/serial convertor cable & OliVixes alternative Diagnostic s/ware.

Well done mate.

Granda numpty here....how do "updates" to your App get to my HUDL 2? Are they "announced" in some way? Or do we have to refresh every now and then to check??

Ahh, easy one. Every time your device gets a network connection, if there are any updates available, it just appearas as a notification.

Interested in seeing how anyone has done a permanent setup for this with a 7 inch tablet. I think this should be just about the correct size to fit under the radio. I'm half tempted to go for a single din android head unit like
this but its a lot of money to find out it doesnt work with the app smile

I was thinking about setting the tablet to boot on charge with something like
this

Then configuring the app to autostart after boot.

I've looked at 1din android head units There are lots of options out there. As long as it's USB host enabled and has PlayStore it should work out of the box. If anyone wants to look at exploring this I'm happy to cut a beta version to test under. (a head unit with GPS would be a good idea too as I've just added a speedometer dial.)

Even if it doesn't have the play store i could theoretically backup the app from my phone to an APK and install it on the device. Not sure how this works with licencing, but if you purchase it once and can use it legally on multiple devices i'm guessing it doesn't really matter how you get it onto those devices.

A single din device would be the most elegant solution. I'll do some digging into them see what I can find out, I haven't done much research into different models, features or even found one that doesn't look like an 80's matsui VCR. There will no doubt be countless threads on XDA devs for perusal.

Happy to help as much as I can.
The MegaSquirt guys have an Android front end app called msdroid. Which has been around for a while. I believe someone is successfully running that app on a 1din Android head unit.

I'm looking at this option of both, as I'm using RS-AJP at the moment, and might be changing to a megasquirt wink

Finally managed to get time to correctly access the GPS sensor in my phone.

Here's a first draft of the speedo dial that I quickly dropped on a layout and took for a test drive...

Lots more to do, getting this far was the complicated part, the rest should be pretty straightforward.

The GPS sensor also measures Lateral G and Acceleration, plus it gives Altitude, Bearing, Longitude and Latitude as well as Number of satellites and various status flags.

Being able to log in realtime, exactly where you are, how fast you're travelling, you're bearing, altitude and the current state of every sensor (in an AJP engine) has never been available before.

All this lined-up data means that it will be possible to do some interesting data mining exercises.

Once I integrate all these pieces of new data and test I'll cut a release.

Best wishes
