ECU Diagnostic Software Re-Write
Discussion
Thanks for the write up Harry. That's where I want to put mine, above the stereo. Looking at clamps/holders. Also need to fit a new dab stereo, antenna (going for a roof mount but in the boot) and speakers so need to find some time to do all that. I want to rig mine up with a USB Y cable and have it charging when the ignition's on. And possibly a USB hub for adding other stuff. Trouble is, whenever I have a bit of time I'd rather be driving it!

I just bought a male to female serial lead to get over the screw issue.. Also gives enough length then to have it visible when driving. Although my serial wasn't working so I've now got it set up permanently with the 3 pin lead..
I wonder if you could cut the lid maybe and seal it round the serial to keep a permanent fixture. That was what I was going to look into.
There is a thread detailing how to do this Jhonno. Think it was last year and possibly by "N7GTX" .I wonder if you could cut the lid maybe and seal it round the serial to keep a permanent fixture. That was what I was going to look into.
Cheers Sandy

RS-AJP
I have the rs-ajp on my nexus 7 tablet Johnno, i just cant figure how to use or look at Greg's layout You need to save it in the RS-AJP folder.. Then just open it and it will start the app with the layout.
Need to have a play with my app layout.. Might get a chance tonight.
As you have a Nexus, it should be similar to my phone (Nexus 6)
You will need to download a File Explorer from Play Store
- I downloaded ES File Explorer (light blue icon)
When you open that, it will show you the file directory. Scroll down and you will find your downloads folder where the file will be atm, and then the RS-AJP folder where you wish to paste it.

Hi all,
after installing the software and sub-D plug successfully I am looking for a nice way to have it permanently connected.
I understand you can fit a 90° adapter to the RS232 and drill an additional hole into the case of the ECU. Only I would have to cut the plug then to make it fit into the ECU -it is just huge. So a lot of cutting and drilling... Would't it be nice if we could use the original plug of the ECU, maybe some of the connectors are not used as standard? Has anybody had a look at that?
Cheers
Henning
PS:
Oh well, bluetooth would be really nice;-) -Do you still plan for this, Aide? (I can see it is a long time until christmas, but this would be on my wish-list.)
If you still plan to do it I might try and be patient...

I have an RS232 Bluetooth dongle, I've had it for ages and I'd love to be able to hop into the car and have my phone automatically pair with the ECU.
From a coding perspective it's not that difficult and I believe it would be a crowning feature of the App, however I can't commit to offering the feature as it wouldn't be fair if people spent time and money on Bluetooth adaptors only to find that the feature never materialised.
It's simply a lack of time on my part as I've started another business and between it, family commitments and my day job I'm flat out.
But I will have a look..
Best wishes
Aide
BT support would be great but just to point out you'll still need to connect the BT dongle to the ECU so the issues of connecting to ecu, lid on/off etc remains (plus you'll need to power the dongle).
Ideally I'd like to use the 2 socket fly lead if it is indeed rs232 sans earth .
In the meantime I'll look for a slimline male-female ribbon db9 extension cable and order the prolific adapter.

Hi FUBAR
Since you have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and if you have a 9pin ecu connection then all you need is:
1. A Usb OTG Cable
2. And a Prolific USB to RS-232 DB9 Serial Adapter
Connection procedure:
1) Connect your cables together
2) Connect cable to your ECU
3) Connect cable to your Android device
When you connect the cable to your Android device you will get a popup asking you to run the app.
That's it!

Just to mention, and I know it's glaringly obvious, but its never been mentioned before: please only connect/disconnect the usb-to-serial cable to the ECU when the ignition is off.
If you have any trouble give me a shout.
HTH!
