I will investigate further also then....

I have a Pioneer AVH-X7700BT, which i believe several other cerbera owners use aswell....

This runs DashCommand, which is apparently a pretty popular ECU Monitoring program..... I foolishly purchased an OBD2 bluetooth trannsmitter hoping to integrate, only before realising the MBE ecu wasnt OBD compliant!

Jailbreaking sounds an interesting concept though....

Are the following links the kind of aftermarket headunit that would run the app independently then? I can only assume not because i see no usb input?

They both list USB but more for music and video. you wonder if that is the same as USB host mode?

I just bought an Android tablet to try the software out on but it says not compatible with this device.
Sorry if it's already been asked but 35 pages are a lot to go through lol So what specification of tablet is needed for the software?
I download it to my HTC M9 with no problems but have yet to try it out in the car.

Hi Mad Mark
The Android device has to be USB Host enabled.
(35 pages is a lot to digest I agree)

"USB Host enabled"
Is that OTG?
It has "Host" written on the back next to usb socket and it is OTG.
Its running Kitkat 4.4.2
Any ideas?

USB OTG is the cable you need to connect your Android device to the USB to Serial (9-Pin) cable.

An Android device that's USB Host enabled simply means it can subbly power to whatever it's connected to (in this case the USB to Serial Cable)

So, you can buy a "USB OTG" cable on Amazon for ~£1.00, but you need your Android device to be "USB Host" enabled in order for it to be able to supply power to the USB to Serial Cable.

So, any android devicve that has USB Host capabilities, when used to look up the RS-AJP app on PlayStore, will be listed as compatable.

Looks like the device isn't recognised by The PlayStore.

Not sure what to do in this case.
I unfortunately can't test every device out there, there are just too many!
Perhaps you could send it back and get a refund?
Best regards

I dodn't know you could do that.
No of course you can't be expected to test everything. That's the trouble with buying one of these lesser known makes.
I wont send it back is it's not a bad item. Looks like my kids might be getting an extra present then lol
I'll have a look for a smaller one that fits in the hole a bit better.
Thanks for looking into it Aide smile

Hi Aide,

I used your software on my Sony Xperia Z3 tablet for a while now (as in previous posts).
Everything was fine until I came back from holiday, but now it does not seem to recognize the ECU anymore. -I know this sounds silly.
As far as I can say nothing has changed in the setup: car, cables, tablet are all the same. I do not know about software updates, they seem to happen automatically?
Did you encounter similar problems? Is there a way of resetting? Should I de- and reinstall the software? Could there be an issue with some Android update?
Android is version 5.02, RS AJP is 1.10.

Thanks
Henning

Hi Henning

The App doesn’t rely on any release-specific features.

And, looking at the usage stats, there are quite a few users using the app with Android v5.1 so I don’t think it’s a version issue.

Are you sure it’s v5.02 of Android?

Best wishes
Aide

Unfortunately I have the same problem with Sony tablet (Z2). Everything worked fine with Android 4, after update to Android Lollipop (currently 5.1.1) the app stopped connecting ECU and so far I have not managed to make it work.

Hi Aide,

I just double-checked and Android is v5.02 -I don't know if this is some version specific to Sony(?) as the update function says there is no later version.
Will find a WinXP laptop today to check there is a signal at the ECU.
Still wondering...

Cheers
Henning

Hi Guys

Just to re-iterate.

The App doesn’t rely on any release-specific features.

And, there are quite a few users using the app with Android Lolipop so I don’t think it’s a version issue.

However, a quick google search suggests that Sony have messed with their OTG.

So, the App is fine, but Sony have broke something on their side.

HTH!

Hi Aide,

thanks for the quick reply.
Maybe that is not what I was hoping for, but great help to have a direction to move on ;-)
I'll try to go back to Android 4.X now.

Thanks
Henning

ETA:
I didn't mean to blame your software. It is just me being digitally illiterate ;-)
Really appreciate you look into all sorts of questions so quickly.
Should I try to get such attention from Sony? -Maybe not.

Hi Aide

I have the same issue as Matt in that the 3 pin serial fly lead works fine with the EvoOli diagnostic software on a laptop, but connecting it to my Nexus 7 (gen 1) running your very nice AJP software just does nothing unluckily

Did anyone ever get a resolution for this?

Cheers

I've just connected my Nexus 7 (2013) currently running 5.1.1 and all works well.
I did have an issue briefly it stopped working but that was my usb extension lead. Changed it and all good again.

My biggest headache is sizing everything up to fit the screen and with my OCD getting all the boxes and circles the same size! frown lol

Mark, I went through the same sizing exercise and posted the result of my work, think Aide added it to the wiki. If you want the standard layout, just download the file, copy onto your nexus and run it smile PS: This I think will replace all the good work you've already done unless you export it first.
